MOuthfeel is stale, with some sweet caramel and slightly sticky raisin characters. Some soft floral hops int he finish, but the mouthfeel is very lifeless and dull, not very complex either. mansquito (830), Boston/Philadelphia, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 16, 2007 Dark red color to it as far as I could tell. I guess somewhat amber. Caramelish aroma with a little malty touch. Mostly a malty beer, but there are definitely a few hops thrown in the brewing process. Advertised as an amber for some reason- I quickly realized it wasn’t a standard amber ale. Kind of interesting methinks. Hammster (187), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Sep 15, 2007 Bottle. Poured a very clear dark amber color with a too small head. I’m having trouble picking up much in the aroma--just a hint of malt. The taste is more bitter than I ever expected. I actually prefer Flying Dog’s golden ale to this. The finish is clean but this is not something I would ever get in the habit of drinking. sneezey (110), Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Sep 15, 2007 For an "amber" this sure has a dark and reddish color to it. Not all that full an aroma given the color, but a bit of the hops does come through. Mostly that lager syrup kind of taste with a bit of malt on top of it. Not as full bodied as you would have expected by color and taste. Very average in general but a very nice toasted malt taste lingers. Would be a lot better if that finish was more prominent and up front. Solid feel to it but not enough hops and strength to match the mouth feel. Somewhat low in the intensity range and suffers for that reason. Average and a bit out of character. raymondwave (875), Finland

I don’t think I’ve had california common before, and didn’t know I was having one. I was surprised of the fullness of this lager. Malty, hoppy, fruity, smooth, sweet yet slightly bitter and burnt, but without significant aftertaste. Overall really good and nice surprise. nihar (68), Ohio, USA
