mgoy (282), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA May 16, 2008 Flying Dog Old Scratch Amber Lager is an amber color with a very quickly disappearing head. The aroma is very malty with some hints of alcohol. The flavor is very light with an interesting finish. Partly smooth and partly dry.
CptGreencoat (16), Kettering, Ohio, USA Oct 10, 2008 Bottle. Scent is nothing but malts, and not much at that. Pours to reddish-amber with little head. Taste is malt, a little honey, nuts, and a very light hop finish. Just carbonated enough to keep it interesting. This is a good beer, but nothing to wright home about. I don’t see myself making any trips to the store to pick this one up. Defreni (513), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 4, 2008 Flaske. Mørk ravfarvet øl. Klar maltduft med en anelse nød i. Klar maltsmag, med et forholdsvis forfriskende CO2 pust. Fin øl, men ikke min stil. Dastrn (66), Warsaw, Indiana, USA Oct 3, 2008 Dark reddish brown in color with a small head. The nose was malt, nuts, honey, and caramel.
The taste had a bit more hops than I would have guessed, but it was a very pleasant surprise. The taste was malt, bark, burnt nut, and a little bitter caramel and raisin.
The mouthfeel smooth on the tip of the tongue, with some kick in the middle, and then it goes down smooth.
All around a very tasty and drinkable lager! I enjoyed it a LOT more than I expected! SaintMatty (515), Tallinn, Estonia Oct 2, 2008 355ml Bottle - Dark amber in colour with a small head. Slightly nutty and malty aroma with some toffee hints and a hint of aniseed. The taste is more hoppy than the aroma would suggest and it is hops combined with some toffee and caramel notes that are most noticeable along with a fruity element with some raisins and more aniseed in the finish. Not bad. Jukkabro (2394), Tampere, Finland Sep 27, 2008 Dark coppery colored with medium sized yellow head. Nutty-caramelly aroma with fine hops, some licorice also here. Medium bodied. Flavor is more hopped with caramel and bitterness, lemon comes up too. Aftertaste dries with lasting lemon.
