dirt55 (41), Washington, USA Jun 25, 2008 bottled, poured clear amber with mild tan head mod carbonation, aroma of caramel malt, for a lager very light on the palate with mild roasted malt and hop combination, as wolverine said smooth but not as expected in a lager category
Mitch_Wayne (77), Kokkola, Finland Aug 20, 2008 Fruity malty nose with some sweetness, fruity malty taste with a hint of bitterness in the end. A nice california common, the best I have tasted yet, I can still easily understand if someone dislikes this, the buttery, somehow earthy notes make this a bit stramge. Lalli (53), Helsinki, Finland Aug 16, 2008 Beatiful amber color with nice creamy head. Malty nose with a hint of roasted malts. Flavor is also quite malty with a hint of american hops. A rather good beer, and a refreshingly different type of lager than we Finns are tormented with. Nik925 (90), California, USA Aug 14, 2008 Smells of unfermented malt, sweeter than expected. "Brewed in the steam style tradition" is a odd comment because I upon opening I was reminded of my tour of Anchor brewing. Far better than expected, lager yeast still under-preforms as a yeast, but this is a great example of the style. This is what I want from Sam Adams Boston Lager. TET (125), Finland Aug 14, 2008 Flying Dog Old Scratch Amber Lager is copper-brown beer with thin blond head. Malts, toffee and hint of flowery hops are found from the aroma. Flavour is surprisingly quite dry with nice bitterness and there are found malts and some pine needles. Quite easy and slippery to drink with balanced carbonation. I was waiting quite much from this beer and it doesn’t fullfilled for my all expectations; balanced but still slightly boring and common beer. Borresteijn (443), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 14, 2008 Bottle at home. Amber colour, white head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, malt. Flavour is caramel, malts, hops and some fruit. Not too sweet, nice and dry mouthfeel. Clean dry finish.
