First Impression: Not great, but not bad. Dark, roasted flavors, coffee and some chocolate, on top of a watery base. Aroma is faint, stale, and chocolate. Visuals are deep brown, with a quickly dissipating head. Taste is roasted, chocolate, coffee, and spices. Palate is top of mouth, somewhat hoppy and long lasting finish. Second Impression is much like the first - not great but not bad. Many others stomp on it comparatively.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 27, 2008 Nearly black with a reddish hue. Slight white head that dissipates quickly but leaves decent lacing. Light aroma with chocolate, caramel, and malt evident. Both smooth and highly carbonated on the palate. The flavor is quite nice. Bitter chocolate, licorice, and malt. Just a hint of dry bitterness at the end. A good porter. gonzo46and2 (108), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 24, 2008 Candied sugar and fruit aroma. Small off white head and nice clarity. Good silky mouthfeel as expected from a porter but not too big of a flavor. The ABV rings through which considering the circumstances is pretty bad. 1. The ABV is pretty low at 6.0. 2. Porters usually have a big malt character and sweetness that counters the acidic and alchoholic tastes best.
With that being said. It’s a tasty beer just not in my top 5 porters. knights97 (84), Tennessee, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 15, 2008 from crackedkettle.com - very dark brown colour with a ruby hue, little collapsing beige head; toasted notes of black chocolate with some hoppy tones in the background; good malt body maintained by a fair and regular carbonation; a decent bitterness and a long toasted chocolatey and hoppy aftertaste Crafty07 (393), Florence, Kentucky, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 14, 2008 Smooth low carbonated Porter that I simply can’t detected all of the hinted licorice and ’peaty malt’ that others note.
To me, it’s simply a drinkable American porter that can be consumed again at leisure. Gregis (1135), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 12, 2008 Pours a deep mahogany with a creamy, beige head that laces nicely. The nose is a blend of caramel and chocolate malt notes with a touch of peaty malt in the background. Light to medium-bodied and slick with tongue-scrubbing fine carbonation and a lightly dry, roasty finish. The flavor follows the nose with a light fruity note added to the caramel and chocolate malt. I’m fairly surprised to see this one rated so lowly. I haven’t been overly impressed by most of Flying Dog’s lower gravity brews, but this one is fairly tasty and easy-drinking. While it might not be among my top choices for a locally available porter, I would drink it again.
