Dark brown/black colored brew. Malty aroma, not strong. A bit watery. Flavor is malty, chocolate with a light bitterness. Could use stronger bitterness to make it less light.

Bottled. Dark brown coloured with a small tan head. Malty with notes of chocolate, molasses, dark fruit and hops. Quite mild and thin bodied.

Very hard to rate beer. If rated as a porter it is below average. Probably would have a higher rating if it was labeled under a different style, but compared to a quality porter it is lacking. Pours a dark amber color, light for a "porter". Aroma is somewhat malty, with a hint of chocolate. Flavor is better, kind of a toasty, chocolate malt. Really not a bad beer (not great either), just a poor representation of a porter. Very light body, definitely leaves you wanting more.

It’s not a porter - it’s not really a scotch ale. It smells musty - hence the aroma not being high. The bitter taste mixed wtih sweet malt is nice but ends on a sweet note. Not the greatest - bt I’m not a big fan of Flying Dog.

Nice beer but not really a porter, a mild ale maybe. Some coffee and chocolate, with a very soft mouthfeel, very drinkable!

Is this a new beer? Not a porter and not Flying Dog’s best (speaking as a fan). Very light in color for a porter and doesn’t quite taste right. Tastes more hoppy and slightly fruity than chocolate, malt or coffee. There are certainly better porters out there. A bad aftertaste that I can’t quite describe (another reviewer said ’ashtray’). I suppose that’s where the words "reminiscent of a Porter" come from in the commercial description.

Color is very, very dark garnet color witha moderately full, beige, pillowy head which has moderate longevity and leaves some random lacing. Nose is weak and boring; notes of toasted bread crust, light smoke, and faint chocolate, maybe a bit of an abstract, tannic, vinous note. Flavor is better but only by a slight margin; notes are mainly chocolate with light toasty notes, smokey notes, and faint anise. Palate is medium to thin, watery, and soft to lively. Finishes a bit drying with smoke, light bitterness, and some faint hints at the tannic notes. A very curious beer to say the least. More like a dark brown ale with scottish hints (smoke), and an abstract, vinous, tannic note. Could be more interesing if it were better put together.

Could not imagine this is actually listed as a porter. Weak sour aroma, with a faint smell of malts. Flavour is fruity, but no roasted malts or chocolate. Disappointing.
