Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of centuries old Scottish brewing methods, "Road" is reminiscent of a Porter. Road Dog is a rich, malty beer with hints of chocolate and licorice resulting from the use of four prized malts.

Had this beer on 4/10/1999. Color is very dark deep brown, with good carbonation and head. Aroma is a rich sweet malt and hop scent. Taste is rich and strong. It starts with a medium body that goes down heavy with a rich malt feel. Finish is a somewhat sharp sweet malt taste that is the norm for a Scottish Ale, followed by a nice hop bitterness and light hop flavor. This is a good porter with nice Scottish attributes.

Rich malt base characterized by a roasted, dark chocolate, earthy essense. Pretty dry witha nice malty finish. Very much Middle-of-the-Road.

Poured from a bottle. Pours a deep brown with ruby highlights and a thin tan head. Aroma of malts and dark fruits. Flavor of malts with undertones of fruit and licorice with a dry finish. Decent, but a bit thin.

350 ml bottle. Black with a fizzy white head. Fruity, berry aroma with hints of chocolate and roastiness. Watery palate. Chocolate covered fruit taste with some roasty notes but overall taste is not as robust as I wanted.

Poured very dark with a thick head. Nice malty aroma of licorice and molasses. Taste was a very pleasant rich malt. The flavor was nicely balanced and the malt wasn’t overwhelming or too sweet. Very smooth and clean finish. Underrated by reviewers.

bottle labeled road dog porter not Scottish porter, same label otherwise. beer poured a red black in color that can be seen through in the light with a ruby red color. smell is lots of malts, roasted beans, and licorice. taste is malted, has a slight metallic flavor, and a slight roasted hint. beer is overall on the weak side for the style, nothing really jumped out at me to spark an interest. nothing really wrong with the beer it is like something Saranac would brew.

Dark almost black pour with very little head. very malty smell. Very sweet malty taste. Smooth and warming. I thought this was much better than it was rated
