Pleasantly surprised by this effort, which was much better than i remembered its previous incarnation to be. Good lookin’ amber colour with a slight haze and a medium off white head. Fragrant aroma with a lorra lorra hop action goin’ down. One big swig later and yes, this is an IPA straight outta the top drawer. A good amount of grassy resinous hop dances with just the right dose of malt to create a balanced and great tasting brew. All hail the snake dawg. ALCOHOLNIZM (66), WARWICK, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 4, 2009 She shines like a golden sun which has fallen from the skies and landed in my glass. Bursting forth are flares of orange, amber, red, and gold while a faintly orange hued head clings stubbornly to the walls of her confines. As her sunny visage smiles up at mine, I am embraced by her warmth and her nose as ripe, juicy, pulpy oranges, lemon, and grapefruit are picked, sliced, and squeezed for my pleasure. Adding an earthy quality, grass both freshly mowed and dry from long days in the summer sun give her nose a crisp bite that leads into sticky sap resins. Joining her tropical fruit cornucopia are mangos which means I am officially on cloud nine. Even though I risk being burned, I dive into her golden-amber depths for the first of many quaffs. More acidic and bracing then her nose, lemon and grapefruit skin and dry grass greets me first, drying my palate despite her wet, mouthcoating nature. She finishes with a flourish of honey drizzled atop mango and juicy pineapple, even as more dry grass settles squarely on top of my tongue. She has a very clean finish which lingers only slightly in the back of my throat. A subtle breeze of blooming flowers whispers in my breath even as pine needles, sap, and green grass reminds me of the forest lurking beyond her horizons. An intriguing interplay of opposites; wet then dry, sweet then bitter with citric acidity and melba toast drizzled with honey sitting atop a bed of juicy tropical fruits, all working together in perfect harmony. For anyone who is still leery of IPAs, then Flying Dog’s Snake Dog IPA may be the magic moment of revelry where you catch the IPA bug.
A solidly performing American IPA. Not one aspect of her hoppy nature dominated and threatened to overwhelm each other, and myself. I enjoy a good, well balanced hop-bomb as much as I enjoy a delicate, well balanced IPA and Flying Dog is just that. An easy choice when I desire refreshing liquid sustenance. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 29, 2009 bottle. Pours a clear amber with a nice, off-white head. Good lacing. Nose is citrus and pine with caramel malt. Taste has malt balancing the hops. Mouthfeel is medium-thin and not bitter enough, in my opinion. Still very drinkable.
