Acknud (770), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Jul 7, 2007 Bottle. Pine hops. Lingering aftertaste. Very refreshing. medium bitterness, frothy, clear, golden, emobassfoo (178), Webster, New York, USA Jul 7, 2007 6 pack from Hegedorns. A nice golden pour with an enormous creamy rich head. A citrus nose, but lots of other saturated smells lie beneath the head. Taste is surprisingly not as strong as the aroma. It has a lot of flavor notes, but not as bitter as I expected. Aftertaste is ... interesting, and loves to linger even after 2 other beers. Hits the tongue smooth and tapers out dry after the gulp. All in all, the best Flying Dog I’ve had since the last variety pack had the IPA on the box but I ended up with 4 Octoberfests I gave to other people. As I saw with a couple other ratings, a solid IPA indeed. NachlamSie (1630), Tennessee, USA Jul 6, 2007 Updated: Oct 8, 2007Bottle best before Nov ’07. Pours a light orange with a decent white head. The nose is citrusy and bready. I pick up a bit of pineapple, caramel, lemon-cough drops, some floral notes. It’s not all that bitter, considering the style. It’s just a little tart. Dense flavors of lemon and menthol are noted throughout along with a distinct flavor of dough and wood. This is a British leaning IPA and fairly mild all around, though it has adequate complexity and assertiveness to make it interesting. It’s pretty clean too. Not bad.
[bottle again on Oct 8, ’07] Nicely bitter and clean with a significant amount of juicy, fruity flavors. I enjoyed this more the 2nd time around. scottmc (167), Lakewood, Colorado, USA Jul 6, 2007 This IPA defies what is defined as an IPA, where the amount of hops is obvious upon taste and smell. I feel that the hops are not as abundant as it should be for a new age american IPA. I feel this would fit more along with a British-style pale ale. The taste was not alarming, more of a lighter bodied IPA and not bitter at all. The fruity hops are not too abundunt either. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Jul 4, 2007 (Bottle) Purchased by Oakes at Brewery Creek in Vancouver. Pours a thin, white, cloudy head with a clear, lightly carbonated deep golden body. Nose of great pine - and as sk8viking mentions - grape, the fake corner store soda kind. Flavour is very floral and piney. Well balanced with malt. This is very enjoyable. Emil (6075), Copenhagen, Denmark Jul 4, 2007 Bottle. A clear amber beer with a big off-white head. The aroma is of caramel malt, grape and is floral, the taste is caramel malt, grape, pine and a bit sweet, well balabced. Medium body with a sweet dry hoppy finish. Quit alot of hop aroma and taste for a ipa with only 36 ibu. I like it! tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jul 3, 2007 Strong floral and citrus hops greet the nose along with apricot-like fruity esters and sweet doughy malts. Brilliantly clear copper coloured body is topped by a dense, fine bubbled and lasting white head that leaves some sticky lace on the sides of the glass. Peach, apricot and grape fruity esters are strong and blend nicely with tangerine, grapefruit and orange citrus and lavender floral hops in the flavour. Cookie dough and lightly bready, toasty malts offer a platform for the hops with moderate bitterness adding the exclamation point. Medium body is quite smooth and almost doughy in texture but strong carbonation adds a contrast. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Brewery Creek, Jun-07). Thanks, Josh! Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Jul 2, 2007 Brewery Creek Bright amber colour. Citrusy, woody aroma with some caramel notes. Soft caramelly malts on the palate back up bright mango, orange, wood and pamplemousse notes. Mild, but well-structured with interesting, bright flavours.
