DarkStar22769 (100), Ontario, Canada Jan 7, 2007 A brilliant pour that was amber with some medium head. The aroma could be smelled across the room (not really but my partner detests hoppy ales and she was decrying my choice from the far side of the couch). The dry hopping really supports this ale and demands that the drinker dive right in. The aroma carried elements of citrus and earthiness. The flavour is insurmountable...equal parts hop bitterness and malt sweetness form to provide a range from fruit (berry, apple, pear) to Golding bitterness. Solid beer! yayforbeer (641), Orange Park, Florida, USA Jan 4, 2007 12oz bottle. Fresh floral hop aroma. Drank straight from the bottle and enjoyed it a lot. Flavor is right on style for an IPA, but not extreme in any direction. The Marris Otter and Golding shine through and give it a very nice English character. Well balanced and very drinkable. Certainly better than I expected from Flying Dog. I only picked up a single to try and wish I had grabbed the six instead. MagooinPA (99), Warminster, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 4, 2007 Great IPA pours nice amber color with good lacing. Great malt character to balance the huge hop blast. Nice throughout. Could only get it in a variety pack, would buy a whole case if I could. DJC (238), USA Dec 31, 2006 Copper/amber body, with an off-white head. Nice lacing. Both citrus and malt in the aroma. Initial flavor contains some sweet malt, but the grapefruit rind characteristic of the hops quickly takes over. Pleasant, moderately bitter aftertaste. Good carbonation. This is an extremely drinkable IPA. luvcasks (178), USA Dec 24, 2006 brilliant burnished gold with a nice medium lasting whitish head... with some lacing on the glass as well. As the beer warms some tangerine/mango flavors show in the hop flavor
Resiny, grapefruit, some pear like fruity aromas with a faint malt background
Toast malt, firm resiny, spicy, grapefruit pith like hop bitterness. Some astringency and creaminess.
Palate: lingering Layers of hop dryness, creaminess and some more hops
Overall: A very well made IPA, which has a great juicy hop nose really nice to see a toast (munich malt) like flavor to support the hop flavor well done. No it is not a Stone/AleSmith IPA but downright a darn good IPA if the toast malt were restrained the juicy hop bitterness would shine evermore.... mmmmm hops miket25 (24), USA Dec 22, 2006 I really didn’t care for this IPA. I guess if you like very bitter beers this might be for you - but I like my beer a bit more mellow. BeerHeadBobby (142), In Hiding.., Florida, USA Dec 21, 2006 Bottled - Pours a dark copper.. lots of lacing.. Aroma is... you guessed it! HOPS... lots of fragrant hops on the nose.. Taste resembles the smell.. hops from front to back.. solid IPA from the DOG andyhite (290), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Dec 19, 2006 no offense to any of the brewers, but i’m just not a fan here. i may have had a sunstruck 6. i just got a very bland flavor off of this, unusual of flying dog. it had a hoppy aroma with a little hint of earthiness, but other than that, there just wasn’t much here. the finish was very short and a bit dry. i love hops, but i didn’t find the flavor here.
