spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Dec 18, 2006 Aroma is of citrus hops.Pours copper with large white head.Get some hops and a little malt in the flavors.Medium mouthfeel with some slight hops in the finish. bkurtz (276), Peru Dec 18, 2006 Poured a nice copper colour with a quickly receeding foamy head. Hops from start to finish. A solid beer. jimhilt (1664), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Dec 17, 2006 Broadway brewing used to brew this beer for the Flying Dog brewpub but now the Flying Dog is brewing & bottling themselves but the taste is the same - strong hops to start and finish what else would expect with an IPA? Good carbonation and head. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 17, 2006 Updated: Dec 31, 2007Thank you for including this into my sampler pack. As an IPA, I am not expecting much, it’s not my favorite style. Only reason why I’m sampling it is because it’s there. Bright orange yellow into the steeler stein. Lots of bubbles and an aroma of what else, hops??? Has yer same old IPA bitter offensiveness and it lingers after the finish like medicine. What else can be said about an IPA? Can I begin to appreciate this style? I guess so, since now I think of the flavor as grapefruit and peel instead of bitter astringent. Well, this bitter grapefruit peel flavor is lingering. IPA is rated low on my flavor scale for styles. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 9, 2006 A 12 oz bottle I bought as a single at World Market in Greendale.
This beer poured a very hazey orange color with white head that was tightly bound together and appeared to have good staying power and would leave lacing on the glass.
The smell of this beer was wonderful...a hoppy-citrus quality reminiscent of Three Floyd’s Gumballhead (my favorite IPA) that led me to expect more of the same from the taste of the beer.
Alas, I was disappointed. The taste and mouthfeel of thisbeer seemed a bit thin to me. And the taste didn’t live up to the expectation created by the beers aroma. It was somewhat bitter, but not bitter enough to really transmit that citrus hop taste. I felt a bit let down. Also, I felt this beer could be slightly improved by being a bit more carbonated. jainsv (112), USA Dec 5, 2006 Very similar to the pale ale, very hoppy with a slightly sour taste. Thing head and a copper color. Not as hoppy as the pale ale, oddly enough. Kind of thing, ther eare better IPA’s but not a bad flying dog beer. chef201atc (249), Weatherford, Texas, USA Dec 4, 2006 Clear copper with a foamy off-white lasting head. Nose is all citrusy hops, very grassy - nice! Palate is a bit thin. Good hop bitterness in the taste, but not as much hop flavor as the nose suggests. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Dec 4, 2006 12 oz Bottle via jgd0608 (thanks!). Pours a clear amber with a small white head. Nose is a floral hoppiness, as well as some citrus hops, mostly grapefruit. THe taste is all about the hops. I do detect the caramel malts way underneath, but it starts out grapefruit hoppy and ends grapefruit hoppy with a bittersweet finish. Light body, high carbonation. Not very complex and not very bitter. .An average IPA.
