drkilmer (35), Myersville, Maryland, USA Oct 18, 2006 Poured a cloudy orange with a rather weak off-white head. Very clean and ballanced, with nice hop balance. This is a beer I might buy again. jake65 (1657), Williston, North Dakota, USA Oct 17, 2006 Bottle: A maltier than usual IPA, the hoppiness is there, but competes with the malt. Some floral hops are present, just a bit of citrus, but not more than a medium in intensity. A bit too much malt for my taste in an IPA. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Oct 13, 2006 bottle. pours a deep orange/light amber with a medium off white head. Aroma is grapefruit and floral, some caramel malt. Taste is grapefruit up front, a light to medium bitterness, with some light caramel malts in the background. body is slightly watery and the carbonation is medium. Not great marvinpontiac (117), Huntington Beach, California, USA Oct 1, 2006 An underwhelming IPA but not a bad one. Piney aroma and a light copper color. The malt has a little toastyness and a nice bitter finish but there’s not much to write home about. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA Oct 1, 2006 Bottle Code 119A06, Sampled October 2006
Pours with a lightly hazy, amber tinged, copper color and is topped by an initially two and a half finger thick, billowy, pale tan colored head. The aroma is definitely hop focused with notes of grapefruit intermingled with pine and a sort of raw, almost dank hop note. Underneath the hops is a toasted grain character mixed with a touch of caramelized malt, which gives the beer a sweet finish to the aroma. There really is a sort of musky hop note here, almost like an herbaceous garlic note or something.
This beer starts out dry, and bready with a toasted grain edge to it. It quickly becomes quite hoppy with a bit of balancing malt sweetness. Solidly bitter, but also with flavorful hop character that has touches of pine, a solid citrus-like note of grapefruit, and even some of that herbaceous almost garlic like note. There seems to be a green apple like note here as well, it sort of melds in with the citrus character. The beer finishes with a raw, herbaceous, biting bitterness that lingers on in the palate well after the beer has left my mouth.
This beer is quite a bit more aggressive than I was expecting from Flying Dog, their other beers in the regular lineup are much more subdued. While the flavors may not be perfectly integrated (it does seem a touch disjointed at times) in this beer, I do like the raw, aggressive hop character. This is still fairly light and quaffable, and is certainly enjoyable. Flying dog is certainly turning out to be a better brewery than I have given them credit for.

Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Oct 1, 2006 12 oz bottle. Clear gold with a foamy white head. Nice nose - flowery hop, a tinge of pine. Medium bitter, floral and dry pepper. A servicable IPA, just not spectacular. 00cobraR (1096), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Oct 1, 2006 Pours out a ncie deep yellow color with a decent white head. Aroma is grassy with a nice hoppiness to it. Flavor is very much the same. These brews have quickly became my favorite and this is a decent example.
