Fruity nose with vanilla/oak and coffee/licorice. Sweet and full bodied with syrup and coffee as ell as bourbon and molasses. Sugar and bourbon grows to dominate. On the surface it acts just as the top examples of the highly praised concept of bourbon barrel aging dark ales. A closer inspection reveals a stickyness and fruitiness, and it lacks elegance. It is tasty, but still feels like a poor photo copy of a masterpiece. TrefwoordPunk (556), Leiden, Netherlands
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 23, 2009 Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours black with a tan head and an aroma of nuts, roasted malts, dark bread, earth, oak and tobacco. The taste is high on roasted malts, vanilla and some coffee, dark chocolate and oak. Of course there is also whiskey in here, but it doesn’t combine that well with the normal gonzo porter it seems. Not the best Flying Dog JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 14, 2009 Blackish pour with a big vanilla-wood-chocolate aroma that has some alcohol present. Flavor is heavy on the whiskey and wood, but seems to fall apart. I started to miss the classic Gonzo-roasty taste and it went downhill from there. Not their best effort and a big dissapointment as far as BA beers go.... TBone (6844), Pori, Finland
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 13, 2009 Bottled (BB 12/2010). My rating #5500.
Opaque black color, small espresso head, some lace too. Strong oak and vanilla from whiskey barrels, also some dark chocolate. Medium to full bodied. Whiskey is evident here, bourbon and vanilla fudge dominate otherwise roasted flavors. Also oak and black coffee. A bit alcoholic, but barrel-ageding has been succeeded quite well, flavors are in the balance. I suppose this is the best you can get from normal Gonzo Porter. The aroma is vineous with plenty roasted malt, and strong vanilla and bourbon-like oak. Dry and roasted flavour with tannin in the finish. bierkoning (6094), La Tropica, Netherlands
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 8, 2009 Bottle. Almost black and opague. Roast, ash, coffee, oak, tobacco and dark chocolate in the aroma. Malty sweet, creamy flavor with ash, laurel, dark chocolate and blackcurrant.
Laurel, ash, berries and oak in the aftertaste. Delicious and satisfyingly balanced brew. Dedollewaitor (3764), Odense, Denmark
