pours dark... almost black with a huge overly carbonated brown head.
odd sour aroma... possibly sour milk but more akin to rotten coffee. there is a waft of bourbon, spice, brown sugar, chocolate, charred wood and lots of maltiness but that ashy sour aroma won’t go away.
the flavor is really raisin-y but without most of the sugar... ashy, toasted malt, chocolate, caramel/butterscotch/brown sugar, very slight bourbon, spice and then an unpleasant sour dry finish. i can’t place the exact flavor but it seems to have picked up some sort of bug or infection...
over carbonation tames as the beer gets swirled in the glass but that, in turn makes it dead on the palate... something is off in this one. 7/4/6/3/13/3.3
