Divine nose of sweets, dark fruits, roasty malts and alcohol. Taste of dark fruits, once again, and lots of chocolate. The whiskey also comes out nicely. Quite sticky and oily texture. Nice warming finish due to the whiskey, with not so noticeable ABV, considering. A nice tribute to the good doctor. HST, R.I.P. Anker (309), Hillerød, Denmark

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 3, 2009 In short: A very nice porter with molasses, toffee and faint whisky notes being the main feature. Very nice even if inferior to the regular Gonzo.
How: Tap at Boston Extreme Beer Fest 2009
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head
In long: Roasted level is medium. Body is smooth. Toffee, molasses are the main flavours. Limited fruity flavours, a lot less fruity than the regular Gonzo. Chocolate/nougat notes of the regular Gonzo are switched for vanilla in this Barrel-Aged version. The whisky barrel flavour is light, almost subtle. I liked this beer a lot but I prefer the more complex regular cheap Gonzo. Good news, cause with the economy now I’m so broke that I cannot even afford to be cheap.

Nice, not too strong, aroma of Bourbon oak. Good caramel and vanilla flavor, sweet enough, not too strong body. Balanced, not extreme, good but not impressive, like most Flying Dogs. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 28, 2009 Bottle. High fluffy but lasting light brown head. Body is a black as it can possibly get. Lovely roasted barley malt aroma with coffee choccolate whiskey and wood. Far from agressive. Creamy choccolate coffee with a nice whiskey wood addition and just a bit of bitterness at the finish. Very nice balance as neither the whiskey nor the high alcohol percantage is too dominant. Low carbonation and a long aftertaste. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Deep rich mahogany pour with a fluffy eggshell head and significant lacing. Mount St. Helen’s ash combined with lactic funkiness find their way into the aroma. Molasses, chocolate, and sour curdled milk combine with charcoal on the tongue. Decent carbonation. Different but enjoyed it.
