Commercial Description:
Hunter S. Thompson once said, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Consider this our professional version of Gonzo Imperial Porter. Aged and seasoned for three months in wood barrels from our neighbors at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, this ale has a well-balanced taste and abundance of character. The taste will remind you of sweet chocolate, dry oak, and smooth whiskey with a memorable, velvety mouthfeel.

Courtesy of cbkschubert @ Hellbilly’s Hellraiser 3.0...THANKS CRAIG!!! Deep rich mahogany pour with a fluffy eggshell head and significant lacing. Mount St. Helen’s ash combined with lactic funkiness find their way into the aroma. Molasses, chocolate, and sour curdled milk combine with charcoal on the tongue. Decent carbonation. Different but enjoyed it.

Bottle shared by cbkschubert at hellbilly’s hellraiser 3.0 tasting. Pours a crude oil black with a huge foamy tan head that leaves nice lacing. The nose is ashy cocoa, burnt chocolate and sour coffee grounds. The taste is sour malt, charred wood, baker’s chocolate and light coffee in the finish. Medium prickly body. Might have a touch of Diacetyl. Still good – thanks Craig!

Dark brown pour with a light tan head. The aroma is all bourbon barrel to me. A touch of dark malt sweetness is in there as well. Flavors of chocolate and dark fruits, lots of woody oaky notes, vanilla, and lots and lots of bourbon. The carbonation is pretty big in this one too.

Pours black as night with a ridiculous amount of head. It’s been a couple minutes and the head has just slightly deflated. The aroma is heavy in bourbon with some cherry notes and some subtle cocoa. The flavour is amazing. The burbon is your initial flavour along with the lightly sour berry citrus with hints of oak. The taste of alcohol is a nice complementary flavour. As the brew passes, the berry flavour instantly intensifies, overpowering the bourbon, before the dry, woody notes overtake both. Along with the woody notes, strong bittersweet chocolate characters arise. The wood and chocolate begins to subdue as the berry citrus brings the tasting experience to a nice smooth finish. This may not be as intense as the original Gonzo, but it’s very complex.

Served on draft as part of the Black Moonday event at Capital Alehouse in Richmond, VA. Pours a red tinted brown color with a small head and average lacing. Aroma is oak, a paint thinner like chemical thing and chocolate. Taste is cocoa, bourbon, vanilla, sesame and hops. Full bodied.
