Commercial Description:
Hunter S. Thompson once said, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Consider this our professional version of Gonzo Imperial Porter. Aged and seasoned for three months in wood barrels from our neighbors at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, this ale has a well-balanced taste and abundance of character. The taste will remind you of sweet chocolate, dry oak, and smooth whiskey with a memorable, velvety mouthfeel.

Pours a pitch black color with a thin brown head. Pleasant aroma of oak, chocolate and roasted malt. Good flavor of oak, chocolate and roasted malt with a bitter finish. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and soft carbonation.

Poured black into a snifter. Very big soda like chocolate head. Smelled of chocolate and wood. Taste is chocolate, some bourbon soaked wood, vanilla and a bit of dark fruit. Reminded me a tiny bit of the unique flavor of old vis. Didn’t really bring everything together like I had hoped, but still a very enjoyable brew indeed.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of burnt, dark chocolate and strong coffee, light perfume note for the hops, light leather for the yeast, with honey and butter (honestly smelled like Bit O Honey). Head is huge, frothy/foamy, light brown, has excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is black. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is medium bodied, creamy textured and has a lively almost fizzy carbonation. It finishes lightly astringent and dry. A very unique flavor transition from start to finish and an excellently crafted beer.

750ml bottle caged and corked. Served in a brandy snifter. A little over carbonated. First poured resulted in a massive tan head. Deep brown. Lots of vanilla in nose and a little alcohol, hint of hops. Great bourbon flavor with oak and vanilla. Full body. Flavors of chocolate malt. There are some hops in the middle to balance the malt. Rich mouthfeel. A really nice barrel aged beer, the only detraction was the over carbonation.

25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a tan head. Nose of grapes and musty brown sugar. Light tingly carb with a smooth, medium body. Taste is sweet chocolate prunes and airy bourbon. Hints of cola and molasses. Black coffee aftertaste.

Lots of whisky/bourban in the smell and pallate of this. Lots of roasty good malts, much llike the normal gonz. Some vanilla in there. Very smooth for a high ABV brew. A little to much in the form of the whisky barrell for me to enjoy as much as the regular gonzo.
