| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 26, 2007 Lots of whisky/bourban in the smell and pallate of this. Lots of roasty good malts, much llike the normal gonz. Some vanilla in there. Very smooth for a high ABV brew. A little to much in the form of the whisky barrell for me to enjoy as much as the regular gonzo. carl4beer (409), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 21, 2007 My bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc, mabel & tupalev -- courtesy of fordest. Pours black with a massive foamy light-brown head. Nice aroma of whiskey, vanilla, roasted malt, chocolate, burnt caramel, dark fruit, alcohol and more -- lots going on there. Flavour of dark roasted malt, chocolate, oak, whiskey and dark fruit -- quite tasty. Slightly alcoholic, bitter finish. Nice creamy mouthfeel, medium to full bodied. Very good stuff, this is barrel-aged done right. GregClow (2516), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 19, 2007 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, jerc, mabel and tupalev - blankboy’s bottle. Deep brown with a huge tan head that leaves tons of lace. Aroma - sweet, malty, woody, vanilla, espresso, dark sugar, cream - just really, really good. Smooth, full body. Flavour is great as well - starts with coffee and cream, with some chocolate coming in, and notes of wood and whiskey. Very, very nice. HogTownHarry (4037), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 18, 2007 Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc, mabel and tupalev, blankboy’s bottle. About time we had this - brought to what, 7 tastings? It poured out pretty much motor oil black - hints of ruby around the edges - with a huge (borderline gusher) foamy-creamy light brown head (4+). I love that aroma - lush, thick, right up front I got table cream, then mint chocolate, light oak resin, raisins, deeply roasted malt, dry herbal hop bitterness, and smoothing the whole thing out was just the right touch of sweet, mildly vanilla whiskey. The taste delivered the promise of the aroma , but a little more bitterness, a little more alcohol presence, plus more chocolate, and as it warmed I picked up molasses, which complemented the oak nicely. Soft of a thick on the tongue, really well balanced light acidity and solid carbonation - there was quite a bitter linger to this, once the creamy-malty up-front diminised slowly. A real treat, lovely, worth the wait. NicerInPerson (337), North of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 18, 2007 The aroma was consumed with strong bourbon whiskey and oak. The aroma was phenolic with a fusel rubbing alcohol character which was nasal burning. Chocolate and roast were in the background with some caramel. The beer arrived pitch black with a brown low head which existed at the edges of the surface but did lace at the glass. The flavor was strong bourbon which overpowered all else. The flavor was harsh and hid the chocolate and roast flavors. The beer was fruity with some caramel presence. The finish was dry with lasting strong bourbon into the aftertaste. The body was medium-full with a low level of carbonation. Very hot on the palate with strong alcohol warming post consumption. A bit of a mess, too much bourbon which trounces the base beer. 10 oz glass at Barleys in Greenville.
