Commercial Description:
Hunter S. Thompson once said, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Consider this our professional version of Gonzo Imperial Porter. Aged and seasoned for three months in wood barrels from our neighbors at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, this ale has a well-balanced taste and abundance of character. The taste will remind you of sweet chocolate, dry oak, and smooth whiskey with a memorable, velvety mouthfeel.

Sample from a 750ml bottle. Dark patchy brown head with a deep black colored body. Smoky, roasty huge bourbon note, flavor is mellow with roast and bourbon, gritty and toasty, and surprisingly no butter note which is what bourbon barrels tend to produce. I like it. Rich and sweet toffee and bourbon flavors, thick and viscous, and hot only in the finish. Well made.

750ml bottle. Aroma: Roasted malt and bourbon barrel aromas are intermingled. Chocolate, coffee, bourbon, molasses, vanilla, dark fruits, and alcohol. Piney hops and some very light citrus. Appearance: Dark, dark brown in color with no highlights. Medium tan head was huge and foamy with great retention. Great lacing. Flavor: Roasted malt with notes of chocolate, coffee, raisins, and smoke. Bourbon barrel flavors were nice and balanced with notes of toasted wood, bourbon, and vanilla. Some piney hops and a touch of sourness into the finish. Medium sweet finish with alot of roast carrying over. Palate: Medium-high bodied. Medium carbonation. Light alcohol burn in back of mouth. Overall: This was a good version of a barrel-aged beer. Added some interesting flavors to a good base beer. A good beer to cap my night.

[BCTC 07] Poured a dark brown, red color with a large, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, light bourbon, cocoa, and a bit of caramel. Taste of vanilla, chocolate, roast, with a bit more caramel, faint bourbon, and alcohol, though a lactic aspect persisted, detracting from the body. Though I did enjoy the fact that the bourbon did not overpower. I have a bottle of the Stranahan’s whiskey used, and it is a sharp one.

Aroma of pine, prune and chocolate. Opaque brown/black color with a huge dark tan head. Aroma of seaweed as the goblet appoaches the lips. Medium to full bodied. Mild carbonation. Raisins, prunes, plums, chocolate, fresh shellfish. Creamy. Pretty dry finish, with minimal bitter. It’s more chocolate, a bit of coffee, and a hint of old fashioned Guinness burnt malt. Could be a hint of barrel oak. Just a tad. Something of a mouthsmacking delight. Very smooth. It’s really refreshing in a dark way. Also, where did the pine go?

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is all things vanilla with some wood smoke and dark chocolate. Flavor is more of the same but done quite nicly. Lots of dark fruits and chocolate with a nice bourbon alcogol burn. Nothing to overpower though and get in the way of the original flavors.

Courtesy of Crizay. Big dark fruit and piney hop aroma. Gets lightly plasticky. lso get some chocolate and alcohol in pretty big doses. The body is black with a 3 finger thick lasting tan head. The head is really kind of silly big, but it is frothy and craggy and nice to look at. Burnt dark fruit, black and milk chocolates, coffee, mild pineapple, oak, vanilla, loads of piney hops and hot whiskey in the finish. I think I prefer the original, but this isn’t exactly a bad beer here.
