Very similar in appeatance to regular Gonzo black with tan head. Arom ais sweeter and more bourbon but alc and stonger aroma of roasted malt. Flavor is vanilla, cherry, chocolate, burnt malt but crazy harsh. Med-full body with big alc burn. Crazy boubon, harsh and overall unbalanced but interesting. tjthresh (1778), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 13, 2007 Poured chocolate brown with some light brown head. Typical aromas of every barrel aged beer. Oak, vanilla, and whisky, but not sign of the beer itself. The flavor reminds me of campfire smores followed by a snort of grandpa’s cough medicine. Pretty nice. Fluffy, milky mouthfeel with a slow burn in the finish. BA Gonzo is good, but I prefer the original. jazz88 (2237), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 13, 2007 Bottle. Black color with a huge foamy brown head. At first the head took up most the glass, but as it warmed the head was rich but not overwhelming. Rich toasted malts, chocolate, coffee, wood, and high in alcohol. Smoother and less noticeable barrel aging in that that alcohol from the barrels does not interfere with the beer. Dough77 (777), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 12, 2007 Pours a darker brown borderlining black. Nose of chocolate, coffee, vanillaish, and malt. Flavor is bourbon as well as all the goodies from the aroma. A little dark fruit mixed in. Feel like this brew has the potential to be great, but misses the mark. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA

Aroma is mollases, espresso, dark chocolate, licorice, whiskey. Taste is chocolate, espresso, alcohol, bourban, very roasty, and ashy like a nice cigar. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 10, 2007 Lots of oak, plenty of charcoal briquettes with underlying chocolate, vanilla, resiny pine and plenty of alcohol. Opaque, darkest brown body is topped by a decent sized dark brown, fine bubbled head that recedes to a thin cover that lasts throughout and coats the sides of the glass in lacing. Barrel aging is very apparent up front in the flavour. Cherry pits, charred wood, bittersweet dark chocolate and pine/citrus hops are notable in the sweet flavour. Moderate bitterness and lasting charred roastiness in the aftertaste. Medium full body with low carbonation that is very well suited to the thick texture of the beer. Bottle sampled with Oakes in June 2007. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 9, 2007 Bottle sampled. This was an expensive bottle, but worth it. Pours dark with a decent size compact khaki colored head. Aroma of roast, sweetness, chocolate, wood, and alcohol. The flavor is smooth, roast, chocolate, sweet, oak, and traces of bitter hops in the finish. Good brew.
