I actually brought this one to the tasting. Purchased at Blue Max. Thanks Jim for having a few of these left (none were out on the shelves but there were a couple left in the back of the store). The biggest problem with this beer was the high carbonation. Because this beer was too lively, I really had trouble picking out the flavors. I enjoyed the regular Gonzo. This was okay, but carbonated too highly. yespr (12411), Copenhagen O, Denmark

Aroma is fruity hoppy. Clear barrel note, malty, sweet, slight citric. Malty finish going slight dry. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

The beer tastes like and oak barrel, full of burnt wood and vanilla. Very small bourbon flavor. There is almost no maltiness left to the beer. RAYBOY01 (1868), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 25, 2007 Needless to say, the Gonzo is a great beer. This barrel aged version is also fantastic...chocolate, coffee, espresso grounds, etc...but my bottle was just way too carbonated. Pour an ounce into a glass and watch it foam over the top and run all over the table. Or ease a couple ounces into the glass and sit for 15 minutes while it dissipates enough to try and drink without getting suds all over your face. Nice addition, though, to the great Gonzo’s other flavors...oak and bourbon. Good stuff. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Sweet chocolatey espresso, leafy citrus black patent hops.
Fruity vanilla and bourbon graces a dry espresso-y lactic roasty body. Black patent malt + citrus hops brings great flavor out of the bourbon wood. Pretty good stuff. Once it warms / sits, the mouthfeel gets a bit better. I like the drying fruity, bright, roasty bitterness SoLan (1427), Orlando, Florida, USA

Mild roasty malt and a light dose of mocha. The hops must have got lost in the thick vegetation. Like chewing on a heavily veined leaf. Not what I expected at all. Body is medium with too much carbonation. Possibly a bad bottle. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 21, 2007 thanks msonnenberg. this was surprisingly drinkable. we had it at around refrigerator temperature. it was overcarbonated and ridiculously heady throughout the bottle, and the carbonation also affected the palate somewhat. but it tasted pretty good. aroma was chocolate without coffee, some dark fruit, a bit of talc. flavor was mostly the same with a surprising amount of acidity as well. very light bodied. almost no alcohol flavor at fridge temp, but then it became quite prominent on the back end as it warmed up. not really a burning alcohol flavor, more warming and rounding. pretty good overall.
