Commercial Description:
Hunter S. Thompson once said, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Consider this our professional version of Gonzo Imperial Porter. Aged and seasoned for three months in wood barrels from our neighbors at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, this ale has a well-balanced taste and abundance of character. The taste will remind you of sweet chocolate, dry oak, and smooth whiskey with a memorable, velvety mouthfeel.

RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Black colour, light off white head. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, caramel, very sweet and a bit boozy. Flavour is sweet, vanilla, bourbon, coffee, alcohol, bit of liquorice. Very alcoholic. Medium bodied. Lacked the aggressive flavours of the regular Gonzo imo.

Bottle. Black beer with a strong head. The aroma is deeply bitter and coffee, and the flavour is very bitter, smoked and roasted. Overall a good beer.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a nice dense cappuccino coloured head. Aromas of dark malt, coconut, vanilla, chocolate and some citrus fruit. Smooth and oily texture. Rich and complex flavour with notes of chocolate, wood, vanilla, licorice, coffee with milk and a deep malty backbone. I could drink this all day.

Slick looking close to black, slick nice mouthfeel. Aroma is too ondimensional, lots of whiskey, some chocolate but I missed the lovely caramell toffe stuff going on in the regular Gonzo. Same goes for the flavour, very intense but one-dimensional. It’s good but too straightforward for my liking.

Bottle. Black with a thin beige foam. Aromas are molasses, toffee and roast malts with floral notes. Dark syrup and rum with liquorice and woody, herbal notes. Flavours are sweet molasses with chocolate and coffee with cream followed by oaky notes and bitter coffee and grapefruit. Nice floral character, too, with leather and herbal, spicy notes. Warming alcohol on the finish. Tastes dark.

A healthy specimen delivering a rich hearty experience. A good head when poured with good aromatics. Medium nectar with excellent carbonation. Chocolate malts are prominent with a mild roast component. I do detect some whisky essence but not much. The finish is long and savory. I has a nice balance for such a big beer.
