Commercial Description:
Hunter S. Thompson once said, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Consider this our professional version of Gonzo Imperial Porter. Aged and seasoned for three months in wood barrels from our neighbors at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, this ale has a well-balanced taste and abundance of character. The taste will remind you of sweet chocolate, dry oak, and smooth whiskey with a memorable, velvety mouthfeel.

Very dark, pasty looking brown. Large foamy brown head. Sweet chocolatey espresso, leafy citrus black patent hops. Fruity vanilla and bourbon graces a dry espresso-y lactic roasty body. Black patent malt + citrus hops brings great flavor out of the bourbon wood. Pretty good stuff. Once it warms / sits, the mouthfeel gets a bit better. I like the drying fruity, bright, roasty bitterness

Pours pitch black with a thin brown head. Very lovely aroma of coffee, bourbon and chocolate. Incredible flavor. Starts off cold and sharp with the bourbon entering the palate but is consecutively overwhelmed by a bittersweet coffee and chocolate flavor that is smooth a silk, grabs the goods and gently flows into the stomach. Leaving me behind with an overwhelming bittersweet finish and some chocolate remains.

Bottle (Thanks Svesse) - Very dark brown, almost black, with a tan head. Chocolate and coffee feature in the slightly vinous aroma. Roasted taste with plain chocolate, coffee and marzipan, followed by a roasted bitterness.

Dark brown, almost black. A small beige head that settles quickly and leaves minimal lacings. The smell is not as powerful as I had hoped. The bourbon dominates with notes of oak and vanilla. Some fresh fruity notes as well. Smooth roasted malts and chocolate in the background. The taste is fairly sweet with bourbon, almonds, vanilla and oak on top of a mildly roasted malty backbone with notes of chocolate and a hint of coffee. A fresh fruity note in the taste as well. The finish is mildly bitter with notes of wood and warming bourbon-like alcohol. Medium to full body. I would have liked some more carbonation and a slightly smoother mouthfeel. I really like the regular Gonzo, but was not overwhelmed by this one. It wasn’t as powerful as I had hoped for and the bourbon takes over slightly too much. But it’s still a good beer and I liked it. Robust spicy wood malt aroma. Black color with a large brown airy head. Bitter and sharp beginning. Gets tangy and bitterness lingers in the finish. Light palate but is been sitting for 2-3 years.

Sat on this one for a while. Poured deep brown with a huge frothy dark cream colored head. Unfortunately, this is where the beauty ended. Huge green apple nose and flavor was the dominant influence. A bit of chocolate, a thin body, and more acetaldehyde. Sad cause I love the Gonzo.

Bottle at EsBF09. Distinct vanilla aroma, pure cigarbox. Black colour. Light brown colour. Good vanilla flavour, cigarbox. Burning alcohol. Very good.
