Dark brown with a small pale beige head that leaves small lacings. The smell has a gentle but prominent smoky character of mostly smoked ham. Notes of charcoal. Dark malts with a gently roasted character. Some fruity notes. The taste is mostly sweet with a delicate mix of smoked ham and roasted malts. Notes of charcoal, wood, coffee, chocolate and roasted fruits. The finish is somewhat bitter with a slight taste of minerals, dark bread and perhaps just a hint of grassy hops. Medium body, slightly boring texture, quite a lot of carbonation. I liked this one. The smoky character takes the lead from start to finish, but it never gets too overpowering or cloying. Instead, it’s rather delicate actually. Serving type: bottle (Copy of old Beer Advocate review)

It’s pitch black with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, light smoke and licorice. The flavor has a light sweetness and light notes of smoke, licorice and caramel and the finish is slightly sweet and bitter. It’s a really nice interpretation of a scwazbier.

Bottle courtesy of angrypirate06 as well as thirdeye11. Dark brown/reddish pour. Smell is of band-aid with some smoke. Might be infected. Taste has some smacky chemical and dark malts. Some band-aid flavor as well. This will have to be a re-rate for me.

Cork and caged 750. Dark brown pour with a tan fizzy head. Aroma was smoky, and funky, smelled infected. Flavor is funky, smoky, bandaid. Tasted like it had brett in it, dont think it’s supposed to though...

Bottle from Kegs & Barrels in Plano, TX. Pours a deep dark brown/black with tan head. Aroma of dark roasted grain, malt, and I swear Brettanomyces. Flavor is exactly the same. Mouth feel is medium-heavy body with medium-high carbonation, almost fizzy. Overall, very tasty stuff, but is the Brett supposed to be there? I haven’t read a rating that mentioned this, but I am POSITIVE there is brett in my bottle. It works though....very nice!

Expensive Corked and Caged 750 bottle with a tricky cork. Pours with a very deep brown body and a large, creamy mocha colored head. Aroma of light smoke, jerky, toasted-caramel grain, light chocolate, metal, some leather and light fruit. Decently decadent smelling. Taste is dry and smokey with some light meat elements, charcoal, dry Mexican roast coffee and a bit of unsweetened chocolate. Dehydrated feeling. Lively bubbles and a creamy mouthfeel. Very, very low residual sugars.

Bottle. Pours black with a tan head that quickly diminshes to surface cover. Aroma is of roast malt, smoke, caramel and licorice. Flavour is the same but also has some sweetness mixed in. Medium bodied with sweetness coming first, with bitterness and smokiness lingering on the finish. A very nice beer, and although the smokiness remains subtle, its very well balanced on the whole.
