dark off copper pour soem browns a quickly dissapating small head. very mild aroma lots of wheat and clove some very dark plum (overripe) and some banannas. Palate is well coated and lightly creamy. Wheat aroma w/ some light spices definate bananna and breads and a hint of clove. I like this stuff, it’s pretty good.

A good seasonal offering from Flying Dog. I didn’t get to try last year’s run so I don’t know how it compares. However, the 2006 release was a very tasty and enjoyable weizenbock which, though nowhere near as good as Aventinus, held it’s on I felt. Bananas and vanilla along with (almost buried) flavors of dark vinous fruits, cloves and brown sugar. Alcohol was well concealed but noticeable and provided a nice warming sensation in the finish. Could have been a bit more balanced but overall a very good beer!

hmmm...I find most of the flying dogs pretty average or just below average. usually disappointing. this is good for flying dog, but the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. pours out of the bottle a not unattractive, but not a knockout deep brown with amber highlights and a minimal off-white head that leaves very little lacing. smells very sweet. alcohol, sugar, banana, wheat. tastes sweet and bitter. yeasty. what is it called when you get bits and pieces of things in your beer? sorry I’m still a newby-rater. but there is sediment(?) very yeasty. strong alcohol taste almost cleanser-ish. banana, caramel, brown sugar, some cloves. too much going on that just does not work together. I don’t even know what to say. a very strange brew.

bottle. dark amber/brown pour. nice clarity. off white thin head. yeast banana and spice aroma. big ripe banana, pepper, touch papery, floral hops, dark fruit and a bit of sugar. dry finish. banana rounds the mouth throughout and is too dominant. one dimensional and a disappointing.

I am tasting this with a friend side by side with the Schneider Aventinus Weizen Bock... The Flying Dog Wild Dog Weizenbock is a cloudy dark amber color. Moderate carbonation with a brown head that bubbles away. Aroma is fruity, aged alcohol, and pungent - I can smell it even as it’s being poured. Flavor is sweet, caramelized wheat, nutty (banana nut maybe?), aged dark fruit, spicy, and a slight bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is well hidden, but its warming effect can be felt. Mouthfeel is full (but not too heavy) and a little syrupy (in a good way). I think that it is getting even better the more it warms up as some of the bitterness in the finish subsides. This is a wonderful beer and a great amalgamation of a wheat beer, a bock beer, and a strong ale. I hate to say it, but this one is definitely better than the Schneider Aventinus. 750 mL bottle, $10.99 from Party Town or Cork-n-Bottle.

Dark ruby appearance with a thin tan head. Aroma had hints of spices, banana, cloves, syrup, apples, caramel and vanilla. Cloves were way overdone in the taste making it unbalanced. I only had a sample so I will re-rate. I appreciate the effort because I usually like products from this company.

A dark ruby haze for body color and a whimsy small capping of fluffy sunburned paper white foam. Retention of foam is low as it glides away to the slim collar quickly and laces the glass lightly with a few short strings. Aroma is plump and ripe, I can smell it as its poured. Quite grapey with a purple jelly ripeness mixing with a light banana, some decent wheat grain sweetness, and a partial spiceyness of clove and vanilla to top it off. Very nosey and nice to whiff. Taste is OK at first, it tends to grow a favorable wheaty base with a slight grapey, super green banana grab of flavor as it goes. Mind you, its not overbearing; quite even-handed. This grew on me as I went along as the smooth wheaty malt base kinda adds little returns of interest each new sip. The darker, riper, fruitier nudge to its character throws it a bit one way, as its jelly, sugar juice-like front and middle mellows enough and closes in on a balanced wheatyness and from there evens out as it turns toward the finish. A very subtle, but present turn towards, what I felt as, a more interesting comlex flavor profile, in the finish with a bunch of ripe fruit and slight spice of vanilla and wheaty, floating sweetness thats boardering a uniquely placed tartness of purple grape jelly and green banana with a slice of plum. Feel is a bit undertoned for a Weizenbock as its smoothness in wheatyness is quite nice but somehow misses out on the thicker notions of a bigger malt tone. A few empty, not quite watery, but getting there, areas, tend to stand out in the body, taking away from the wheatyness that could be more present and lasting. A decent enough Weizenbock. Pretty drinkable, easy going and smooth with a fairly prominent wheatyness thats easy to embrace. Could be better, could be worse, and a good enough effort on a hard style to brew by the folks at Flying Dog.
