Very dark orange hazy bottle. The head is light khaki coloring. Aroma is tart with ornages and hay. There is also sme toffee. The taste is caramel with some tobacco and a litle bit of apples. Strange tasting. A decent beer, but could have more body.

750 ml. green champagne bottle. Corked & caged. No freshness date noticed. $17 each at a local watering hole. Too damn expensive for starters. No pop or fizz when opened. Poured out a deep amber color, with a minimal tan colored head. Aromas are of sweet caramel malts, slight alcohols, and lactic wheat tang. A bit of cloves permeates the aromas as well. Flavors are of cloves, some phenolics, roasted malts, earthy bitter hops. Thick mouthfeel, rich & delicious. Overall, a decent effort for the style. But being so high priced takes points off for value.

Perhaps not a typical wiezenbock, but that is what I liked about it. Medium mahogany, decent but not overpowering head. Spicy aroma of cloves, touch of banana, some caramel, and wheat. Flavor was an almost identical match. Medium bodied, and quite spicy in nature. In no way overly sweet or cloying. I liked this one quite a bit, and hope Flying Dog keeps up the Wild Dog series.

2005 750ml bottle. Big banana aroma, dark brown color. Semisweet banana flavor and lots of it with maple, brown sugar, and some spices such as nutmeg. Light on the palate. Costly at $9.99 per bottle.

750ml bottle. Brown hue tappering into golden at the bottom. Creamed corn in the nose. I realize that it sounds funny, but a friend confirmed it! Toast and alcohol. Slight caramel. Brown sugar and malt. Sweet, creamy, corny, caramel, piney finish. Bready. I thoroughly enjoyed this brew.

2005 bottle from FlacoAlto, definitely one of the most generous traders out there. Consumed on 1/5/06. Popping the cork releases a strange mix of aromas. Cheese, DMS, strawberries, butter, mold, sweat, rich honey and sticky, lightly sour caramel. Hmmmm. Fortunately, allowing the beer to breath quickly delivers me from these odd notes and I get a more directed clove, caramel and light wheat aroma. The beer begins a clear, auburn-strawberry color with some light rust notes and an absolute mountain of fluffy, slightly off-white head that is slow to recede, but ultimately does recede to a ring with little to no lacing. By the end of the bottle, the beer does pour cloudy, with light sediment left on the bottom. Seems to be bottle conditioned, which the texture also confirms. I think the texture is one of its strong points. Fairly tight carbonation, though the bubbles are a bit large on the palate, translating in to a soft and effervescent, but not very creamy mouthfeel (if that makes any sense). The flavor is surprisingly (for this brewer) malty, with plenty of caramel, blackberries, plums, plum skins, black pepper and clove. Light cherries and mashed dates, with a hint of vanilla creaminess and plenty of residual sugar on the finish. The aroma eventually settles out to produce mainly a clove note, a little bit too simple, with just light cola and caramel notes. The flavor is quite full though and the yeast quite true to style. What it does lack, is a mastery of the malted wheat that you see in the German breweries. Here it is a little too husky/grainy, whereas some of the greats from Germany are profoundly creamy and seemless. Bits of banana finish, with well concealed alcohol, but probably a bit too much on the fruitiness. Too much plums, strawberries, black berry skins that dry the flavor out a bit much and get a little too dominant. Still, well done to style especially for an American brewer. If they could just work on that aroma and get some retention on the head.

On tap at the Blake Street Tavern in a 4 oz. sample glass. Muddy brown color with no head. Nice sweet malty aroma. Lingers in the mouth. Not bad!
