Commercial Description:
Wild Dog Weizenbock is a dark amber wheat beer with a complex fruit and spice character. A smooth, full mouth-feel coupled with signature notes of banana and cloves is chased with a robust and warming edge.

Bottle at bdigi66’s. No head, no lacing, transparent with floaties, no carbonation observed, and a reddish orange hue. Nose was caramel, malt, some oak, some alcohol, and some dark fruit. Flavor tasted flat and dry. Some vinuousness and some oak and that’s it. Hmmm. I agree with jsquire that some carbonation would have helped this beer out a lot. Oh well. Next!

brown, cloudy color with an apricotty look in places. fizzy appearance. aroma of hops, fruit and vitamin supplements. a touch sweet in flavor with leathery tones. a greasy finish. much too high an alcohol hit for what it delivers in flavor.

So most of what I’ve had from Flying Dog has been mildly disappointing but the two "Big Beers" that I’ve tasted have matched up more favorably. Some posters have been incredibly harsh...this is a good solid beer. Dark murky brown with orange edges and minimal head. Sweet, sticky, with flavors one would expect; banana, clove, dark fruits such as raisin. The alcohol is noticeable but nice.

2006 Bottle from Shigadeyo. Shared with my wife to celebrate my 5% raise. Pours deep hazy amber with a creamy tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, spice, dust, basement, and banana. Medium bodied with wheaty texture. Up front I get flavors of banana bread, dark wheat, raisen, and caramel. Mid palate I get some subtle spice and belgian mustiness. Finish has some alcohol, but in a good way (think Belgian Quad). In fact the cellar time gave this some Dark Belgian strong ale characteristics. I am glad I opened this now, because I am not sure this would have held on much longer, as I sensed oxidation knocking on the door. This may not be overly complex, but this is still a good beer. I am not sure why people are bashing this, except for the price.

Disappointing cork pop sets to the tone for this underwhelming and overpriced brew. Pours a mahogany orange/coppery brown and hazy but with no head. Aroma is nutella, sweet caramel, nougat, and especially marzipan. Mouthfeel is creamy big and chewy. Alcohol burn in the throat. Flavor is wholegrain bread with lots of air pockets. Not much depth or complexity.

Pours a hazy amber color with floaties and a very thin white head. Aroma of bubble-gum, bananas and sweetness. Sweet flavor of bubble-gum and bananas. The body is light with an oily texture and soft carbonation. It’s not a bad beer, but I’ve had better weizenbocks than this one.

This corked and caged bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of clear colored bubbles that were fully diminished and left behind a slightly hazy softly carbonated light brown colored body and a oily lacing. The weak aroma was of mild malt. The semi-flat smooth mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish with a mellow vinous aftertaste. The strange flavor contained notes of malt and vinous. Not one that I would likely buy again. Did not match my definition of a Weizenbock.

750mL cork and caged bottle. Nice dark copper color, with a cream colored head leaving only traces of lacing. Smell of some banana and clove, but mostly there was a sour smell to it of rotten fruit. Taste is very sour, there is a very small amount of clove in the finish, but this just doesn’t seem right here. Above average carbonation with light to medium body. I just wasn’t impressed with this, seemed more like a sour ale, which is not what I was expecting.
