| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 4, 2007 Poured from the bottle into the pint glass to drink. Poured a very cloudy, dark amber to light brown color with a big, long-lasting, foamy tan head. Complex aroma with easy-to-notice caramel malt and subtler notes of banana and bubblegum, with hints of herbal hops and a subtle yeast background. The taste had a slow beginning; I had to wait an extra half second to sense it. However, once I did, it was pleasantly sour to begin with and quickly transitioned to a big, bitter finish. The mouthfeel also started out a bit flat, but quickly became very fizzy with above average carbonation and a warming finish. It was interesting how the beer took an extra half second to develop, and this feature gave it a unique characteristic. Still, while I was not disappointed, I had hoped this beer would be even better. Volgon (2490), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 24, 2007 bottle-pours deep ruby red with not very much head to mention. nose is malty sweet and has some toasted/spicy character. really doesnt smell that belgian, but for an american version, not bad! flavors are toasted grains and sweet yeast tones. really not that complex, but for what it was, i give it credit. definately a better american version of this style, which few brewers emulate very well here in the US.
