Very drinkable, but the flavors are middle of the road. this is an abbey dubbel for coors drinkers, but they don’t care about dubbels, so I’m not sure what the point of this beer is. I’m glad I had it, because the other options at the restaurant I ordered it at were much worse. But I’m glad I didn’t buy a 6-pack of it, as I’d considered before. beerbill (1977), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 2, 2005 12 oz. bottle. Very good stuff. Pours a deep brown with a thick tan head. Nice fruity aroma. Flavor is malt initially and then some bitterness kicks in along with some slight heat from alcohol. Very smooth and enjoyable. ratman197 (3262), Arvada, Colorado, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Oct 31, 2005 Bottle poured a clear cinnamon brown with a long lasting amber head. Aromas of raisins, toffee, and spices. Palate was medium bodied, dry and a bit astringent. Flavors of dark fruit, spices and a bit of smoke with a dry bittersweet finish. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 25, 2005 Transparent lucid amber in color with magnifying clarity and some skittish grey foam around the edges. Aroma reveals rum raisin, cinnamon, brown sugar, caramel and maple nut fudge. Formidable flavor profile, quickly met with a big sigh of relief that this dubbel is not a dud. Sweet spicing traits congregate to concoct characteristics in line with mulled cider, cinnamon, nutmeg, and almond buttered cookies. An additional element of spice cake with sweet cream cheese frosting shares the limelight as well. Medium bodied; neither viscous nor syrupy - just pleasant company to spend a half hour with. Succinctly balanced and moderately confident, finishing like a Christmas ginger man cookie with homemade icing on top. Perhaps it’s a little liberal in its claim as a dubbel, but it is a tasty Belgian-style amber ale. Thanks to Thaichile for the bottle! OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2005 12 oz bottle via trade with Lou18 - Thanks Lou! Pours brown with ruby highlights and a nice offwhite head that laces well. Aroma of candy sugar, yeast, some apple, and a bit of spice. Flavor starts out very sweet. Almost candy sweet but finishes with an apple sour flavor that was quite tasty. Palate is medium bodied and about right for this style. Not bad for a dubbel. Enjoyable. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 3, 2005 Pours dark redish brown with good off-white head and lacing. Aroma was sweet maybe something towards fruit. Taste was also sweet but, there was a malty taste added that was really good. HighlanderOne (546), Somewherein, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 18, 2005 Poured from bottle - looks just like the last beer I had. Didn’t get much from the aroma. Starts out as sort of a ’Belgian Lite’, but finishes well, with nice flavor and a unique fruit aftertaste. Kind of a nice starter for the style. Hawksfan17 (718), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 18, 2005 Complex smell if spices and herbs. Noticed more fruit in the actual body of flavor where you can really taste the spices too. It is very complex, never hinting at one thing. A very clean and smooth drink, which surprised me a bit. It was not bad to look at either, a nice dark amber brown with a off white head. It was another enjoyable Flying Fish.
