Commercial Description:
This Belgian-style Abbey Dubbel is an exceptionally complex beer with many interwoven flavors. This classic-style Abbey beer features an immense head with a fruity nose and a generous body. Malty in the middle, the beer features a clean, almondy dry finish and a slight alcohol warmth. More like a wine than a beer—it has a lot of the qualities of a fine Burgundy. The beer is bottle-conditioned.

Pours a reddish brown color. I was put off by the lack of any real head on this one. It almost LOOKS watery. Sweet aroma with a tad bit of roasted nuts and some fruit. Decent taste at the start is molasses sweet with a bit of candied fruit. Watery finish really hurts the flavor and there is no real kick here. It’s a decent beer but not something that makes you stand up and take notice.

I love dubbels but this beer is a total failure at being one. A brown beer with an unpleasant sweet potato aroma. Only a hint of malt. Don’t bother.

I have not been much of a fan of the beers I have had from this brewer in the past, but this is the first I have stopped to rate. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a mahogany color with a small creamy tan head. The aroma is sweet and sugary with a chocolate element. The flavor is rich and sweet and has a strong chocolate note. Not a bad brew, but really does not taste much like a dubbel to me.

Poured a amber/brown color. Sweet molasses aroma with some light fruits, caramel, toast and almonds in the taste. This was a nice dubbel from a New Jersey brewery that can be hit or miss.

Bottle: Translucent copper, thin frothy off-white head, fairly nice lacing, extremely light carbonation.   Thick bready aroma, subtle grain/oat, touch of plum.   Enjoyable breadiness up front, very slight plum or date mention, but a definite Lakerol Menthol Licorice flavor, which I have enjoyed since I was a kid.   Moderate body and mouthfeel, not as robust as a true Belgian.   Clean finish, decent, but not very complex.   Anywho, still enjoyable.   Thanks Jeff for the freebie!

this was a good beer, nice healthy lasting head, great smell of spices and great taste, lacks a bite though.

Tap. A good amber brown color. A very sweet and spicy aroma with a nice taste to balance it.
