Commercial Description:
This Belgian-style Abbey Dubbel is an exceptionally complex beer with many interwoven flavors. This classic-style Abbey beer features an immense head with a fruity nose and a generous body. Malty in the middle, the beer features a clean, almondy dry finish and a slight alcohol warmth. More like a wine than a beer—it has a lot of the qualities of a fine Burgundy. The beer is bottle-conditioned.

Amber, small head. Soft sweet malt, rather light aroma. Flavour: nice surprise here. Hoppier that I was expecting form aroma. Not bad aftertaste, good body texture. Alcohol was pleasantly warm.

Phenols, solvents, fruity esters and overly sweet malts combine to form a less than compelling aroma. Clear brown with thin, off-white head that recedes to ring. Fruity. SOme malt apparent. Medium light body. On the thin side in the mouth. Bottle (sampled at Mondial 2004.

Bottle. Dark ruby red off white head. Sweet syrupy malt with alcohol and something strange. Hint of spice throughout, bit thin bodied but acceptable. Pleasant but there is something perplexing I cannot place in here that is distracting me from an otherwise nice beer. Mondial 3T (Me).

Amber body, clear, off-white head. Aroma consists mostly of malty caramel and brown chocolate. Light yeast notes, mild fruits and something creamy also make act of presence. Yeasty chocolate palate. very mild, lightly tart. Light-medium body, medium carbonation. Okay american interpretation on a tough to execute style. Very accessible.

Pours amber with medium white head. Aroma of malt, fruit, peat. Tastes and finishes malty, fruity, with some spiciness at the finish.

Clear amber coloured body with a thin off-white head. Aroma of brown sugar, pit fruits, malt and some caramel. Medium-bodied; Sweet taste up front with caramel and other burnt sugars present. Malt and some spices noticeable-but the finish is fairly light and fresh. Overall, a refreshing dubbel-more calm and subtle than most-but definately worth a try. Bottle provided by my good friend jgb9348

I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits over Christmas and sampled it on 26-May-2004.
