Commercial Description:
This Belgian-style Abbey Dubbel is an exceptionally complex beer with many interwoven flavors. This classic-style Abbey beer features an immense head with a fruity nose and a generous body. Malty in the middle, the beer features a clean, almondy dry finish and a slight alcohol warmth. More like a wine than a beer—it has a lot of the qualities of a fine Burgundy. The beer is bottle-conditioned.

Smells like the other three beers in this "gift" set.Looks pretty nice w/ little floaties and all.Good deep amberish color.Tastes a bit fishy to me.Not bad not great.Goes down smooth, kinda sweet, slight bite.I'll stick to the porter or the grand cru.

Less fruit than expected. Mild aroma. Nice malt profile though and a good mouthfeel.

A nice looking beer. Nice lacing and head. Sweet raisen, alcohol and spice aroma. Malty and sweet flavor. A good beer, but just seems to be missing something. Tasty though.

Aroma and start are sweet and yeasty (ribena and apple skins that have been lying in the sun for a while), some plums, grapes and a touch of nuttyness and caramel. I dig the malts, caramelly, nutty, slightly smoky and roasty, plummy, some grapes, light acidity and tartness. Belgian yeast is obvious, nice dry finish to counter the sweetness in the start. In a wierd way i wasn't expecting too much, but i was pleasantly surprised. I dig the lingering nuttyness in your mouth after every sip.

Bright auburn color with a light almond-like head. Funny, I usually like my dubbels to be cloudy. The nose is somewhat yeasty with hints of raisins, sweet malt and some alcohol. The body is also quite sweet with malt with the raisins creating a stir befriending some dark fruity flavours. Some bitterness towards the end finishes off this thick malty dubbel. Not a bad dubbel except lacking some yeastiness, maybe a bit sweet.

(Bottle) Mahogany with almond head. Slight malt nose. Malt flavour with spice and fish sauce? Something foreign and salty. Dry finish.

My bottle didn't have the word "Abbey" on the label, though it's pretty obvious that no abbey was involved since the beer comes from New Jersey. Mine had more of a lasting head than some other raters' Dubbel did. Though it's bottle-conditioned, there were only a few floaties at the bottom of the glass, which disappointed me a tad. Nothing like grossing out others with those yeasty things! The alcohol is well-hidden for 7.3% abv (by contrast, try a Russian strong lager to see an example of poorly-hidden alcohol). Certainly tastes "Belgian" to me, and possesses the proper yeasty character. Quite respectable.
