Commercial Description:
This Belgian-style Abbey Dubbel is an exceptionally complex beer with many interwoven flavors. This classic-style Abbey beer features an immense head with a fruity nose and a generous body. Malty in the middle, the beer features a clean, almondy dry finish and a slight alcohol warmth. More like a wine than a beer—it has a lot of the qualities of a fine Burgundy. The beer is bottle-conditioned.

Pour is nut brown with little to no head. Aromas of caramel and malt. Flavor is watery with malt presence. Boring beer and not a good rep. for the style. ReRate! Pour is a nice redish brown with little to no head. Aromas of alcohol, cherries, sweet fruit, and slight banana. Flavor is caramel, sweet fruits, a slight floral hop, and nice sweet malt. Very drinkable and solid. I dont know what happened with my previous rating...this one is much better now that what I remember.

Copper color with a smallish off-white head. Grainy silage aromas. Not quite a DMS scent, but very close. Sweet malty start, with flavors of dark caramel and candi. A bit too sweet without much complexity behind it. Grainy in the middle. Light malt again in the finish and middle. No real yeast character. A malty ale that is too sweet with no personality. A nice smile and decent body, but there is not enough depth to hold any kind of a conversation with this one.

Sampled at the Oregon Brewers Fest in July ’08. Very unique brew. Fruity nose for sure. Smooth and somewhat malty.

Pours a nice cooper color with almost no head. Aroma is yeasty. Taste has a hint of brown sugar. Nice carbonation. Not a lot of flavor, a little watery. Has a metalic after taste.

This is a good beligian. It tastes a lot like Fransiskaner just not quite the quality of ity.

Well, my bottle poured with zero head, but that’s about the only negative thing I could say about this fine Dubble. Everything else is spot-on for the style.......malty, chocolatey flavor, with the slight presence of alcohol (which this style should have), sweet and fruity nose, easy to drink, etc. One of the best American renditions of a Belgian Dubble and certainly the best I’ve had from the Fish.

On tap at OBF 2008--Amber bodied with a thin off-white head. Yeasty, nutty, sweet, brown sugar nose. Fruity, floral, brown sugar and dark fruit flavors. Very enjoyable.

On tap at the Oregon Brewers Festival. A good dubbel. IMHO, the commercial description is overstated. ’Wine-like’, ’slight alcohol warmth’, I didnt’ find that in this beer.
