Bottle poured reddish copper with a light layer of lace in my Ommegang Chalice
Aromas of Belgian yeast (bread) and sweet malts fill your nose
Flavors of candy sugar honey and malt sweetness with some spices
Light to medium bodied not much carbonation so smooth on the tongue
Decent beer and easily drinkable good American try as a Dubbel.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 5, 2008 THOUGHTS: Much like Full Moon — It’s not the best dubbel, but it’s a nice beer. A little one-sided for a dubbel though.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark amber with a small , off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was light grain and more carmel malt along with a little mild coffee, red wine and alcohol. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly acidic, while the finish was heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic and slightly sour with an average duration. The flavor had candy sugar, brown sugar, a little grain and malt. It was nice but a little watery. The medium body was syrupy with fizzy carbonation and a lightly astringent finish. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 23, 2008 May 2007 - Beer pours clear cherrywood color, quickly dissipating head and no lacing. Aroma of sweet candied sugar and cherry. Flavor was belgian candy and cherries with a touch of earthiness. Not as bad as other US belgian imitations, but certainly not fooling anyone to thinking it’s a real Belgian either. Decent. Love it. Very malty - perfect beer when all the winter styles are gone!! One of my favorites! RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Pours a very dark but clear brown that has a lot of ruby tint to it when held to light. Nose is mild. Small touch of smoky wood to it. Slight sweet edge. Obvious yeast, but still not overpowering at all. Flavor is caramel like sweet. Apple tones, and a lot of them. I am not sure how dubbel-ish it is, but it isn’t that bad really. Being judged against the style though, it isn’t exactly working. Feel is nice. Fairly smooth liquid feel and a real full carbonation that bites a little bit. Like I said, I don’t think this stands up against other dubbels. It just isn’t a dubbel IMO. But as a beer standing alone, I think it is pretty good actually. And it goes down really smooth. If this were on tap, I’d go for it.
An after thought: this reminds me of a beer I recently tried - Riverwest Stein Beer. sneezey (110), Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 30, 2008 Very dark color but not as strong an aroma as you would expect. Serious malt in both the smell and taste. But unfortunately the taste is very overwhelmed by the high alcohol. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 23, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours brown with red hues and a minimal fizzy beige head. Sweet caramel and chocolate nose with some dark fruit, just some light notes of plum and raisin. Big chocolate taste with a hint of coffee. A good dose of caramel sweetness with some slight fruity esters, raisin and grape. Finish is rather crisp and dry. This really doesn’t seem like a dubbel to me, just a bit too much roasted character and not enough yeast profile. A tasty offering, mind you, but a bit to clean. I always have trouble picking out flavors in most Belgians, but this was pretty cut and try. Tasty, though, and very drinkable. An overall solid beer, whatever it may be. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 9, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a crystal-clear, iced tea-ish brown witha half finger head that settles into a thick collar. Quite active carbonation, lots of bubles rising to the top. Aroma is sweet & fruity with a hint of peaches! Taste is initially sweet & fruity, giving way to a dry maltiness in the middle with some alcohol bitterness on the swallow (but nothing unpeaasant). Mouthfeel is mediuim, neither heavy nor watery, with a bit of fizziness from the bubbles. No trace of any yeasties in the bottle or glass, odd for a bottle conditioned ale. All in all, pretty good stuff, well worth the investment of the price of a sixer. I’ve bypassed this brew on many a beer run in the past, but I won’t make that mistake again! This one’s a winner!!!
