Commercial Description:
This Belgian-style Abbey Dubbel is an exceptionally complex beer with many interwoven flavors. This classic-style Abbey beer features an immense head with a fruity nose and a generous body. Malty in the middle, the beer features a clean, almondy dry finish and a slight alcohol warmth. More like a wine than a beer—it has a lot of the qualities of a fine Burgundy. The beer is bottle-conditioned.

Tasting notes aren’t so good on this one, as it was the last beer I had in a very long day of tasting. I can make out the part where it says "I love flying fish" but I’m not sure if it meant the brewery or the fish that were disguised as birds. So somehow, I’m going to play with the numbers so it comes up with the 4.0 that’s in my notebook.

Bottle. Pours an amber brown body with a light fruity aroma of raisin and banana. Light citrus with a moderate etoh flavor masked with sweet malt and a vinous thin body. decent.

Tap at the KSBF 08- Amber (Ruby)pour with good foam head. Slight sweet and spice notes. Light body and rather mellow for a Dubbel. Had better.

On tap at KSBF ’08. Medium amber body with a large head. Lightly sweet and spicy nose. Flavor was sweet and sticky, some spicy esters, rather bland. This is supposed to pass as a dubbel? Next.

dark brown with a lot of carbonation without much head. little nose. flavor of dark candi sugar, very little caramel malt. very little malt complexity. a little hop bitterness. understated weak beer, poor example of the style

Smooth, very nutty and full of a caramel rich flavor. Pleasantly surprised, but I think the caramel flavor is a little overbearing but still very drinkable...
