Appearance: Pours a hazed amber body with a bubbly, off-white head. Smell: Strong, redolent pine aroma backed by a meager amount of sugary caramel. Taste: A very, very thin caramel sweetness before the highly assertive hops kick in, with a sharp floral, pine flavor. The finish is exceptionally bitter and long-lasting. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation. Drinkability: It lacks the lushness and complexity I look for in a barleywine, but, if you’re a fan of highly hopped barleywines then I would recommend this.

Pours a transparent bright copper amber with a thin, spotty-lacing wispy white head. Aroma of sweet, complex toasted caramel malt with a touch of light fruity complexity and brown sugar. Body starts with good light fruity caramel sweetness and some mild bittering and flavor hop balance before a slightly warming finish. A nice, enjoyable and complex barleywine.

Moderate sweet malt aroma, caramel. spicy grapefruit hops. Moderate head retention. Creamy off-white head reddish-amber color clear. Sweet malt flavor followed by matured hop bitterness. Sweet malt finish gives way to an assertive dry hoppy lingering finish. Medium body, soft carbonation, alcohol warming. A great Barleywine!

C&C 750 I picked up at the brewery, fresh in 2006. Clear amber with a tan head. Pungent caramel and orange nose. Sweet, thick caramel flavors offset by orange and grapefruit. Light bitter finish, more orange and brown sugar. Love it!

Handbottled Bottle from ty5592 received in the mystery swap! Thanks Ty! Pours a deep orange with a small, whispy, white head. Aroma is strong with fruity hops and caramel malts. Flavor is also well hopped with some roasted and caramel malts in the middle and a sweet, yet bitter finish. This was very nice and pretty easy to drink. Nothing too complex here but a very nice, drinkable barleywine is something I do enjoy.

750ml, thanks to dickinsonbeer. i think this is a few years aged. pours muddy copper with thin head. impossible to avoid pouring some sediment which caused a muddy appearance. nose has lots of tobacco, plums, tar. nicely oxidized. flavor has tobacco, over rip dark fruits, caramel, and brown sugar. mouth feel is a tad thin, palate shorter than desired. flavor just isn’t rich and complex enough. alc. well hidden.
