| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 14, 2007 Draught: Lightly sweet and lightly bitter aroma. Smells of hops, resin, and grapefruit. Poured a dark amber color with a medium-sized, creamy, tan head that lasted throughout. Great lacing. Sparkling. Cloudy. Flavor was medium bitter and medium sweet. Started bitter with piney hops, then became very malty with flavors of roast and alcohol, then became hoppy again with citrus and grapefruit notes. Also tasted of caramel malts in the hoppier sections. Hops -> Malt -> Hops. Medium to full body. Viscous texture. Average carbonation. Hoppy finish. Overall, a very complex beer that was still very drinkable. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 9, 2007 Draft at Capone’s. Hazy medium coppery pour with minimal off-whitish head. Aroma is caramel malt, fruit, including figs, orange zest, cherry, cognac, black pepper, even a hint of cheddar cheese. The palate is rich and very complex, with flavor notes of caramel malt, fig, brown sugar, cherry, cognac, slight peat mossy bourbon spirits, hops, and some spiciness. All in all, this is a world class barleywine, and one I’ve been seeking for a long time.
