Beautiful amber color. Excellent malt aroma, with fruity and resinous hops. Malty and hoppy taste, resinous and fruity. May I say balanced for my taste? Anyway, it’s well brewed. Excellent.

Feb 2006 bottling, 750ml. Awesome big aroma of orange citrus and wet hops, one of the best smelling beers I’ve experienced. Hazy dark orange with a decent head that never completely disappears. Full bodied, and mouth coating. Fruit and fresh hops continues in the taste as well as firm malt and a spiciness typical of FF. Finishes with warming alcohol and lingering hops. Really nice, and very bold as FF is typically refined.

Really enjoyable barleywine. Well balanced malt and hops. Nice head. Copper in color with a nice head. Very hoppy.

Poured a hazy copper color with a creamy off white head and nice lacing. Soapy aroma also included hints of malt and lots of hops. Bitter hop taste of grapefruit and melon with a caramel, malty finish. This will wake up your taste buds at 7 am or smooth them out when tasted from a cask at 8 pm

Appearance, fully opaque, magenta hued, big, blooming, dotted tapioca head. Aroma: big’n’fruity, rich, brandy-like, dark fruits aplenty, cherries and grapes, mellow, though. I like it! Brisk and beautiful taste, lovely fruited flavor, well-rounded feel, a bit oaky, with a great, mature character. This isn’t ripped, raw and in-yer-face, no, it’s solid, sure, not too hot or boozy, very cool and lovely. Big alcohol, but hardly felt...just enjoyed. Full body, long finish, relaxing and almost indulgent. A quality barleywine, and I was mighty glad to drink it!

Draft at Capone’s. Hazy medium coppery pour with minimal off-whitish head. Aroma is caramel malt, fruit, including figs, orange zest, cherry, cognac, black pepper, even a hint of cheddar cheese. The palate is rich and very complex, with flavor notes of caramel malt, fig, brown sugar, cherry, cognac, slight peat mossy bourbon spirits, hops, and some spiciness. All in all, this is a world class barleywine, and one I’ve been seeking for a long time.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Slightly hazy amber with a tall, handsome and rather stable yellowish head. Fruity, lightly bubblegumish nose. Huge, solid body with a lot of caramel and fruit. Very aromatic hoppy finish. Great beer. 270106

Draught @ Monk’s Cafe. Darker amber color with medium head (in a tulip glass). Sweet & malty aroma with hops present in addition to some darker fruit and citrusy notes. Taste was a nicely balanced mix of piney/citrus hops mixed with smooth and sugary malts. By far the best offering from Flying Fish that I’ve had. Why don’t they make all their beers to this standard?
