egajdzis (3021), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 11, 2007 [Draft @ Capone’s] Poured a hazy brownish red color with no head, that left light lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma of vanilla, dried fruits, bourbon, banana, and light chocolate. Taste of dark fruits, roasted malts, cocoa, caramel, yeast, with vanilla, bourbon, and light alcohol in the finish.
BillWyce (28), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 5, 2008 On draft at Grey Lodge 7/08, served
in a pint glass. Cloudy, dark amber
with minimal head. Nice bourbon aroma.
Was quite sweet at first, giving way to
a lingering pleasant bourbon aftertaste.
Overall, a very nice job. adrian910ss (1032), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 31, 2008 On draft at the GL. Pours a cloudy amber with a tiny light beige head. Appears almost flatlike. Aroma of light bourbon notes, caramel and sour vanilla oak. Taste of light bourbon, vanilla oak and caramel. Has a slightly sour finish. Very nice done and not overdone with the bourbon. kmweaver (2125), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Jul 28, 2008 Draft @ Grey Lodge. Pours a pulpy orange-brown color with golden edges; thin off-white head with patchy, fine-bubbled lacing. Solid amounts of slightly tart citrus, grapefruit, and sour-mash bourbon notes; pulpy fruits, citrusy bourbon, and a touch of toasty brown sugar. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of lively, zesty citrus and grapefruit upfront, surrounding lightly chewy, toasty oak and bourbon; soft bourbon, light abbey dubbel presence underneath (brown sugar, breadiness), and just a really nice, zesty grapefruit and apple presence throughout; really enjoyable; not immensely heavy, just very nicely drinkable. Lengthy finish: breadiness, toasty malts, cereal, and a touch of soft brown sugar. Arayaga2 (769), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 26, 2008 Updated: Jul 28, 2008Deep dark brown with medium brown head. Aroma is VERY bourbon even at arm’s length. Taste is similarly bourbony and sweet with dark fruits and slightly tannic oaky notes. Far and away my favorite FF beer so far. $7/13oz sinkr (138), Lusby, Maryland, USA Mar 26, 2008 Draft->plastic cup (tasting@brewery): Pours a rocky/frothy, light brown head that exhibits spare lacing atop of a murky, lightly cloudy brown body . Malt is of molasses, hops are of celery, and perhaps a tad of butter in there as well. The body is medium, texture is oily, and the carbonation is average. The flavor’s duration is short, moderately sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. This beer drinks more like a port.
An AWESOME beer that most people’ll never be able to taste b/c they only make 50 gallons @ a time and have no plans for distribution; It’s amazing what a difference there is between this and the Abbey Double all because of a bourbon cask.
