Commercial Description:
For its third stop on our multi-year trip to explore the state of New Jersey through its beer and culture, Flying Fish journeys to Exit 1 for Bayshore Oyster Stout. Oysters have had a long association with stout in the United Kingdom. This tradition was gradually lost to the rise of pale ales and overharvesting of the oysters. Exit 1 celebrates this tasty combination and New Jersey’s history as one-time oyster supplier to the nation. Our version is an "export style" stout brewed with oysters. The creamy chocolate flavor harmonizes with the minerals from the oyster shells (there’s no actual "oyster" taste). An Irish ale yeast contributes a bit of fruitiness and a dry crispness. This richer, fuller stout is perfect for cold weather and to share with friends over great food. Not to mention with a few oysters on the half shell.

Pours a beautiful black with a nice tan head that laces the glass. Aroma is chocolate along with sweet malt. Flavor has the chocolate notes along with a very nice smokiness. Maybe my imagination but I get a bit of the bay in the taste. Just a touch of saltiness. Finish is extremely creamy and smooth. Very good.

Appearance: Pours a beautiful black with a super active creamy head. Once the show is over, a 1/4 inch dense creamy layer remains. Aroma: Dry roasty malt and touches of coffee and chocolate. Taste: Dry roasty malt, sharp spicy (almost metalic) bitter hops, and a layer of spiciness that I’ve encountered in beers with Chipotle peppers. Mouthfeel: Dry, and spicy warmth on the back of my throat. Overall: A fantastic beer, complex beer that should go with a hearty plate of food. Seems like a lot of care was put into this, and could have easily been a throw everything at the wall Imperial Stout.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, light coffee, and slight minerals. Poured pitch black in color with a medium-sized, brown head that greatly diminished but lasted around the edges and as a film on top of the beer. Opaque. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of roasted malts, chocolate, espresso, slight toffee, slight minerals, slight caramel, and a hint of sea salt. Medium to full body. Smooth, velvety, slightly thick texture turns lightly dry. Average carbonation. Roasted malt, chocolate, light espresso, light caramel, and slight sea salt finish is lightly dry.

Soy saucy dark brown with a pretty standard stout aroma with prominent roast. Taste is coffee and bittersweet molasses with bicarbonate taste into the finish, and a trailing hint of smoked malt. $10/750

Bottle. 25.4oz. Split this beauty with James, Andrew, Ryan, and Belushi. Pours thick, deep brown, almost black, with a medium amber head. Robust, complex body with an outrageously creamy mouthfeel. Tart, tangy, spicy, yet clean finish. Excellent stout from Flyin Fish. Highly recommended.

Bottle courtesy of patfannon. Nose is cocoa, roasted malt... Strong and inviting. Pour is black with off white thin head. Taste is slightly swartzy with a bitter bite toward the end. Dry and burnt taste, carries a tang. Very good, and glad to see this brewery doing more experimental stuff

Opaque black color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, smoke, chocolate, and sea salt. Taste of roast, dark chocolate, smoked malts, some caramel, nuts, and oysters in the finish.

Tap at CAH. Pours a deep black with a medium bubbly deep tan head that left some lacing. Aroma of rich roasted malt, chocolate, nuts, caramel and light coffee notes. Flavor is also very roasty with caramel, nuts, very smooth and robust chocloate and coffee notes.
