Commercial Description:
You are holding the inaugural release in a multi-year brewing experiment-to brew a series of beers as diverse as the great state of New Jersey. Our theme is the state-long artery that connects us. Each beer will focus on the unique aspect of an individual exit, whether an ingredient or event. The journey begins at Exit 4- right up the street from the Flying Fish brewery. As one of the first craft brewers to embrace Belgian-style beers, we’ve chosen to start with a Belgian trippel, finished with plenty of American hops. Note the hazy golden hue and the aroma of citrus with hints of banana and clove. Then taste the Belgian malt flavors and a subdued bitterness in the finish. Bottle conditioned, this beer will develop as it ages. Enjoy.

Pours out a somewhat cloudy golden color with a moderate slightly off white head. Yeast, citrus, spice and a slight grassy note on the nose. Taste is not as hoppy as some previous raters have found, obviously they’ve died out a bit in this bottle. Taste is of light citrus, yeast, some earthy and grassy notes and even some subtle fruit going on in there too, dry finish. Overall rather interesting and a pretty decent offering from the guys in Cherry Hill.

Pours a hazy gold with a one finger off white head. The nose is earthy, spicy, yeasty, some phenolic character, tad fruity. Flavor is sweet, earthy yeasty character, spicy, bitter hop bite, more of an American feel for sure. Palate is mildly bitter with some spicy character from the yeast.

Hazy gold pour with a thick egg shell colored head and spotty lace. Phenolic aroma. Sprucy hops, mild spice, yeast and light alcohol.

750 ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a lively carbonation and a nice off white fluffy sticky head. Aroma is phen9olic, yeasty, good fresh doughy bread, orange zest, lemony citrus, but not quite as fresh or pungently hoppy as some other American style tripels very slight medicinal phenols as well as hints of grass and earth. Plastic phenols come through as well. Flavor is zesty earthy, and tons of nice herbal hops- and less American style citrus- tons of European spiciness- with a slight citrus kick as it warms, doughy slight sweet caramel malts, zesty- spicy yeasty phenols, slight medicinal, very woody and weedy- garlic mustard is prevalent, very green and turns a bit astringent rather than lively fluffy doughy and citrusy like many other American tripels. Finishes dry though but still has a moderate harsh astringency that makes finishing the bottle a daunting task.

20090417 750ml bottle from Spirits RB. Mostly clear golden with small but lastin white head of tight wight foam. Aromas is hoppy and tropical with grapefruit, pineapple, and sweet rolls taking front seat. Flavor is sharp and a bit hot with bright citrus notes, more grapefruit some pineapple, and sweet orange candy. Tastes more like a crack at a Belgie inspired IPA than anything, but a good one at that. Longlasting mouthfeel is exploding with eff and finishing dry and light. Clearly a beer that could be thrown into a session with dire results. After a couple bottles, the beer is more clearly a tripel than my first impression. Phenols become more and more prevalent as well as a dustiness to the astringency. Not quite as hoppy now as when I first had it. Rounding out to be a decent but not so exciting take on a tripel.

Poured from big bottle. I get wheat and rye in the aroma. Golden, clear, sea foam head. Rye and sweet malt big in flavor - is it rye of dry hops - I’m not sure. Has a definite alcohol presence. Hops noticed in the back. I pour the rest of the bottle and it makes sense. The appearance is cloudy and the malts mellow out the hops nicely. I should have blended the bottle before sampling. Would probably benefit from aging, as they recommend. An interesting and worthy concoction, probably amazing on tap.

Decent sized white head of fine bubbles. Citrusy hops aroma with lots of fruit. Oranges, pears, a little bit of spruce and some spices. Color is a hazy bright orange. Moderate carbonation. A little bit dry and pretty bitter. Lots of hops, peanut skins, apples and some sugary sweetness. Zippy in the mouth. Finishes bitter and dry with lingering belgian fruity notes. A pretty good triple. Maybe a little bit of time will allow the malts in this brew to define themselves more which is more typical of a tripel.
