Commercial Description:
An original American pale ale, our XPA highlights the subtle, sophisticated flavors and aromas of our Midwestern two-row malt and imported aromatic and Munich malts. Washington-grown Mt. Hood and Fuggles hops create an extremely balanced beer with a beautiful straw color.

This one was a disappointment, especially after having pretty positive experiences with other flying fish brews. My biggest complaint: this beer is extremely weak. Not bitter enough, not hoppy enough, not enough malt, not enough flavour. This honestly tastes more like a pale lager than a pale ale; there’s nothing "extra" about it, except possibly "extra bland", or "extra tastes like a macro". I don’t know what they were thinking, nor do I understand why this beer is rated so highly by so many.

This is an excellent American Pale Ale, with a slight to medium hoppy aroma that fits the taste perfectly. Very balanced, easy to drink and very enjoyable.

Very light in color, poured on draft with a pretty light head. Aroma was minimal, but what did come through was pleasant hops. Flavor was similar to the aroma. Failrly one-dimensional slightly hoppy profile with a little bit of malt to balance. Unexciting but there is little fault with this brew.

Very light amber pour under a small white head with some retention. Mildly hoppy aroma with some malt and fresh baked bread mixed in. Not a great deal going on in the flavors but still a nicely balanced pale with firm malts, crisp hoppy bitterness and a touch of grapefruit. Short, dry finish. Overall a pretty good and easy drinking pale but not terribly memorable.

On draft Citizens Bank Park. Pours dark gold with thin white head. Fairly weak citrus nose. Flavor was hoppy and crisp with a slightly bitter finish. Nothing spectacular.

Golden ale with a thin white head. Light caramle malt aroma. In mouth, a crisp malt with herbal hops, with strong diacetyl finish. Medium bodied. Mondial 2006.

Re-rate, Oct 07: Corny and cheap tasting, no real hop presence, contrary to my novice earlier rating. Snore fest here. Original rating: I liked this light and somewhat hoppy beer. Poured a golden cloudy color with minimal head and lacing. Aroma was simple and average, but the flavor was crisp and clean with a pleasant touch of hops. Mouthfeel was nicely carbonated and light. Either hops are growing on me, or Flying Fish did something unique here. A nice summertime beer.
