Commercial Description:
An original American pale ale, our XPA highlights the subtle, sophisticated flavors and aromas of our Midwestern two-row malt and imported aromatic and Munich malts. Washington-grown Mt. Hood and Fuggles hops create an extremely balanced beer with a beautiful straw color.

May 2007 - Beer pours deep urine yellow, clear, very little head or lacing. Weak aroma of metallic spoiled fruit. The flavor was just bad...sweet pilsner like malts with a rotten fruit flavor underneath. Carbonated, but still had an oil-like slickness that kept the foul flavor on my tongue longer. Just not very good at all.

Pours a clear gold-ish. Nose is like rotting funk. Flavor is seriously lacking. The first swig I got, I almost lost it and just spit it out. Basically I can’t finish this because the aftertaste is so nasty. The feel is nice with a good level of carbonation, but who cares. If it doesn’t taste good, what does it matter??

12 oz. bottle. Pours golden with almost no head. Skunky, pungent nose. Grass and cardboard. It stings the nostrils. This as to be a bad bottle, well, it better be. There’s some malt, but lots of metallic taste with some grass and corn in there. Just not good. Really has to be bad.

Pours clear light straw, decent head. Thin and lagery for an American Pale, but yet relatively complex and balanced--fruity, light bready (fuggles?). Interesting...and not quite what I expected from Flying Fish co.

Small beige head...color--golden leaning more towards the orange side...smells a little sweet with caramel aromas mixed with honey...in the mouth...a silky feel, followed by a quick bitterness, then evens out...flavor is sour yeast and bitters...also has an orange rind flavor to it...aroma and mouth feel make this beer appealing

Thin and watery. Difficult to tell it from a lager. Very bland. One small step from Budweiser, one giant leap away from anything remotely worth drinking again.

12 oz bottle-pours a foamy white head and yellow gold color. Aroma is grainy, husky, light malt-sweetness, some spicy hops. Taste follows. No really bad characteristics, just barely middle of the road pale ale. Lots of effervescence/fizzy on the front of the tongue. OK carbonation.

Bottle. Hoppy grapefruit-and-citrus aroma with a large helping of pale malt and lesser notes of bread and English hopfunk [ah, Fuggles]. Better than the 6 it’s been awarded - actually smells good - but it’s hard to give the aroma a 7. Gradient golden-orange body with a soapy beige head. Pleasantly crisp body, lightish thickness, finishes with a strong citric breadiness. Predominant taste is a tangy lemony citrus, with just a touch of green apple and only light bitterness before the end. Light bubble-yum. Average at best - there’s something off here, whether it be an improper flavor balance or just a hint of musty stale funk.
