Interesting aroma of yeast, nutmeg, clove and malt. Flavour started rather sweet. Pretty clean sliding down. Some fruit and spice lurking there. Alcohol not especially well masked. Some bitterness towards the finish. Grew on me and not without some charm. nimbleprop (951), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2009 On cask at Friday the Firkenteenth at the Grey Lodge Pub. Pours a translucent, golden amber with a cloudy white head. Aroma is standard for a Grand Cru, honey, candy sugar, Belgian yeast, apples, a hint of spice. Flavor is sticky sweet, candy sugar, apples, grains, Belgian yeast. Full bodied, sticky finish. Maybe it was just the change of pace at the cask fest, but I found this rather enjoyable. fsbw21086 (85), New Jersey, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 23, 2009 Bottle over a year old, perhaps longer and served in St. Bernardus chalice: Mostly clean golden hue with a small but lasting frothy head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of honey and candi sugar, crystal and biscuity malts, apricot, pear, and a touch of mango esters. Some blended spicy notes upon the nose as well. The taste is fruity as expected with a grainy and yeasty overtone. Moderate earthy spicy component and some almost minty and sea salty contrasting tones helped with complexity and kept it from going too sweet. The mouth feel is unexpected lively and effervescent, the alcohol is mostly hidden. While a good enough brew, I am left a bit perplexed on my feelings about this brew. Part of it is interesting and moved towards the style of an classic Abbey brew but then some of it is a tad overdone and forced. I guess I will go with try it for yourself and see what you think. richlikebeer (832), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
