Commercial Description:
This strong golden ale showcases a variety of the ingredients and brewing methods that help differentiate Flying Fish beers. The Grand Cru is fermented at a higher temperature than our other beers adding an undercurrent of fruitiness (although there is no fruit in the beer). Very lightly filtered, the Grand Cru exhibits complex mouthfeel, strong malt flavors, a spicy hop presence and a soothing alcohol warmth, followed by a clean, dry finish. Bottle conditioned, it is excellent with food as well as served by itself.

11.06.04 12oz bottle. Rather clear golden pour with medium head that quickly fades. I have to admit that this brew looks like a chalice of Miller Lite. Thank god it doesn’t smell like one! Fresh aromas of melon, apple, bread dough; Belgian yeast presence is quite strong on nose. Candied and spiced lemon flavors, pear, brandy. Even spiciness is nicely integrated with alcohol although more subdued than I’d hoped. Very nice offering from this small brewer; it’s better than I had remembered. Palate is lacking and quite thin for something called ’Grand Cru’ and ’Reserve’ and I don’t get much from the hops, either. Gladly, it’s a real quaffer.

Cask. Pours a hazy gold with a pillowy white head. Aroma and taste very tripel-ish, with notes of banana, clove, bubblegum, lemon, and orange with a distinct yeastiness. Finishes dry, sweet, and lightly bitter, getting more bitter as it warms.

Nice cloudy yellow with a light head. Very little in the way of smell. What I did smell was lightly malted. Nice malt taste with mixed fruit overtones. Medium in the taste and alcohol department with a nce dry finish.

Pours medium straw. Aroma of fruit, malt, and red wine. Tastes malty, with finishing bursts of malt, fruit, peat, prunes, and some alcohol on the palate.

Poured a light yellow with a small, 1-finger, head. Smells of spices (cloves) and yeast. Fruity taste with a spicy, yeasty, dry finish.

Poured a yellow, very light amber. Aroma was slightly orange, almost a peach. Taste was similar to an orange marmalade with some spice and cloves. Minimal alcohol.

12 oz bottle that has been sitting in my brothers fridge for 18 months. Surprisingly good: great body, nice tang, lots of spice (coriander or yeast?) Way to go FF.

Very little head which dissapates quickly after a rigorous pour. Straw/orange colored beer with tiny bubbles. Aroma of yeast, slight spice. Taste was mildly sweet fruit, but a bitter finish. The dry finish quickly cleans up any alcohol presence. Glad I bought a 6pack, will open one again in a few months...
