Commercial Description:
This strong golden ale showcases a variety of the ingredients and brewing methods that help differentiate Flying Fish beers. The Grand Cru is fermented at a higher temperature than our other beers adding an undercurrent of fruitiness (although there is no fruit in the beer). Very lightly filtered, the Grand Cru exhibits complex mouthfeel, strong malt flavors, a spicy hop presence and a soothing alcohol warmth, followed by a clean, dry finish. Bottle conditioned, it is excellent with food as well as served by itself.

Aroma has doughy, yeasty, banana-ish esters with sweet woody spices, vanilla, and honey. Flavor is creamy banana and over-ripe apple with some yeasty mustiness and some very spicy, woody, and floral hop presence. Very well rounded. Mouthfeel is full and smooth. Maybe not the most traditional belgian but certainly a very good beer.

Pours a clear honey yellow with a medium white head. Spicy aroma with hints of banana, honey, nutmeg and pepper. Taste is pleasantly spicy with honey, banana and peppery undertones. Similar to Victory Golden Monkey, yet lighter with less alcohol. Very good.

THOUGHTS: Pleasant flavor but all the flavor was in the front of the mouth, with hardly any in the back. The aroma was also nice, but seemed a little too much like fruit juice. More flavor came out in the back as it warmed. Good for Flying Fish, but not a great beer. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a light amber with a small, white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was light malt a little hops, light yeast. Also grape, apple and shite wine. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly acidic, while the finish was moderately to heavily sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. with a short duration. The body was light to medium and dry with fizzy carbonation and a metallic chalky finish that was also a bit watery and thin.

Pours golden with foamy white head and lots of carbonation. Aroma of pepper and citrus. Flavor is lemony and dry like a belgian but more peppery like a saison. Body is a little on the thin side.

Honey colored pour with a smallish head. Aroma of fruits....bananas, I think. Plenty of fruity malts in this....bananas and citrus. I’m not a big of Belgian styles, but this is very good.

Bottle: Cloudy orange with a thin white head and suspended particles. Sweet malts, dough, bread and spices in the armoa, full bodied, mild carbonation and a light rich ending, starts and ends lightly sweet,

Crystal-clear, golden body with a frothy white head...The beer just doesn’t quite look right for a Belgian - it is too filtered, too clean. The aroma is also very mild - somewhat herbal and grassy, dry..The flavor is filled with malts. It is not very complex.
