| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Mar 27, 2009 Got this in a variety pack. Pretty much all of the four beers were very disappointing. Poured a nice orange and smelled of a typical IPA. But had a pretty weak hoppy bite that I’m used to when I have a IPA. But surprisingly,this was the strongest one out of the variety pack. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 7, 2009 12oz bottle. Poured a bright, clear amberorange with a patchy white head.
Smell is light grapefruit and fresh pine.
Flavor is somewhat weak though, very mildy hopped with citrus peel and a light floral hopping. Nice finish, though the mouthful and body is a little thin and watery.

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Dec 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours slightly hazy orange gold, thick white head. Aroma is malty, peaty, grassy, earthy. Flavor is boggy, grassy, earthy, malty, wheaty. Not a total wash, but I do not care for the peat detection, even if it is tempered a bit by a wheaty flavor. riversideAK (2806), Shoreline, Washington, USA

Aromas of light citrus and floral hops with some toasty malts. Some toasted malts with just a touch of sweetness and mild citrus hops in the finish. Not much bitterness. No resins. Not too impressive. otakuden (567), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 1, 2008 Overall, Flying Fish hasn’t really done anything to impress me. They haven’t disappointed, but in no way really so far have they blown me away. Average is the first word that comes to mind, but I am always up for a new beer and a new impression. So it is with both anticipation and a bit of trepidation that I delve into my HopFish IPA from Flying Fish.
A gift from my sister, my HopFish poured with a tantalizingly huge head of soft, loosely-packed foam. It just barely avoided pouring, but thankfully stayed within the lines. A haystack yellow-orange in color with a tinge of amber in her deepest depths, her body is a beautiful array of colors. The head settles into a thin blanket, and I lift my glass to partake of her nose. Ripe and sweet with freshly squeezed oranges, a tinge of grapefruit, and background hints of pine needles and sap. With such a promising nose, I go for my first quaff and am struck immediately by how clean and surprisingly thin her body and mouthfeel is in comparison to how thick and impressive the nose was. My immediate impression of her palate is a plethora of sweet citrus as opposed to tart citrus; orange, tangerines, light notes of grapefruit and lemon. An oily film slowly coats my mouth, tasting of the fresh pine sap I got in her nose with a hint of sweet grass. A dry finish, I get more bitterness in the finish then I do in the rest of her palate. Not very crisp, tart, or hot, or all the other profiles I enjoy so much and associate with my IPAs.
A pleasant IPA, HopFish goes more for the sweet citrus profile which, while it was tasty, it wasn’t my overall cup of brew. At times, I found myself having to remember it was an IPA I was drinking, and not another beer style. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either.
