The clear gold/copper colored body was great to look at
Aromas of hops and a Caramel malt smell filled my head.
Taste is a little more malt forward than I like my IPA’s but you still get enough of a hop flavor to know it’s there
Medium body light carbonation
Very drinkable but definitely could use more hops

A lager-like aroma with citrus notes and soap. The flavor profile was ok, some sweet malts and citrus and floral hops, with an interesting tart pink grapefruit like finish.. Oh, and it tasted like soap, too. Heathen (810), Riverside, New Jersey, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 5, 2008 THOUGHTS: The beer was a gift. Maybe not the best IPA, but a really nice beer. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get this one, but if it was at a party I’d drink it.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light orange with a small, white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was light to moderate caramel malt and moderate Pine and citrus hops. The initial flavor was moderately sweet, lightly acidic and bitter, while the finish was moderately to heavily sweet and moderately bitter with and average duration. The flavor was malt then pine and citrus hops. The light to medium body was a little watery at first and then dry with fizzy carbonation and a moderately astringent finish. The restaurant we were at didn’t have many good choices so I figured I’d try this. I was pleasantly surprised. Very smooth, good taste, good aroma...not special enough that I would call and have a case of it shipped up to me in CT, but certainly on the A-list whenever I’m down visiting my future in-laws. lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA

first impression: A beautiful, deep orange color, a healthy head and a pale demeanor. The aroma is present, and bites a bit. The taste is good, nice, and both hoppy and malty. Just a tiny bit chemical in flavor, which is disappointing, but fleeting. Head departs almost immediately. I think there are some foaming agents present.
Aroma/Olfactory:
Malt reminds of hazelnut or lightly flavored coffee. Maybe a bit of banana or orange peel. There’s definitely some zest present.
Hops are very flowery and give a hint of lemon. Hops improve in flavor throughout tasting.
Flavor seems to target the tasters on the high back roof of the mouth. Heightened sinus reaction.
Visuals/Appearance:
Color is a reddish gold, and reminds of a bourbon, if in color only.
Liquid is quite clear, crisp, and a wispy boil in action.
Head starts strong and quickly dissipates into nothing at all. Lace just barely hangs on.
Taste/Flavor:
Rather sweet, but not cloying.
Bitter and hoppy, but not in a long lasting way - seems designed, rather than brewed. Quickly dissolves into a smooth but enjoyable aftertaste.
Sour in the hints of citrus overtones. A lot of zest originated flavor - bitterness seems unnatural.
Is that bubblegum?
More hoppy than malty, and not bad at all, once the initial shock of the acrid is passed. Good marks, but not the best - better than many others.
Palate/Tactile: Mouthfeel is medium - lingers upon the mouth for a moment.
Texture is crisp and glides from front to back easily. Attention is on both the front-middle and the back of the tongue.
Carbonation is relatively quiet, but crisp on the tongue.
Finish lasts for a second or two, then fades, and nicely so.
second impression: Overall, this is a good beer, definitely not your average American Pils, but does not do great justice to IPAs in the same realm as Stone or Victory. Seems like a River Horse also-ran, which is not to say bad. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Pours a clear orange amber with a massive head off a very firm pour. And the head sticks around too. Metallic acorn nose. But very subdued. Flavor is a bit woody and a bit too sweet (IMO). Seems to calm down on the sweetness as I move on. Caramel-like apple tones are also there. Feel is good. Nice carbonation and a good liquid feel. Overall seems a bit too tangy to be able to down more than one in a go. Well worth trying, it just seems like the edges are a bit too rough. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 28, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Golden with amber hues. Medium white head that dissipates quickly. Minimal lacing. Some light grassy notes with pine, maybe some citrus. Taste is much of the same. Grassy, piney and citrus hops with a decent malt character. Some caramel and toffee with just a hint of chocolate. This is pretty well done. A bit over carbed leads to a somewhat tingly mouthfeel that detracts from the taste. There’s a good dose of bitter in there which lingers through the end into the after, combining wit ha dry finish to make an all around decent beer. Not top tier, but definitely a drinkable, and somewhat sessionable IPA. Cheers, Flying Fish! agl108 (509), Manayunk, Pennsylvania, USA

Sweet malt dominates the flavor with some mild hoppy bitterness. Nothing particular stands out about this beer. Wouldn’t revisit.
