Commercial Description:
This robust dark brew has been created using rich Columbian dark roast coffee to celebrate our 10th anniversary in royal fashion. The enticing regal aromas of toffee and licorice lead to the coronation of taste; a palate of malty richness exhibiting chocolate and coffee notes, balanced by the noble and novel Mt. Rainer hop, all topped with a rich creamy crown. This very special offering will warm your soul and lift your spirits. Oh yeah, it also packs a royal kick at 8% alcohol.

12 oz bottle, from Capone’s in Norristown PA. Pours a clear dark mahogany brown body under a small large bubbled fizzy head that faded quickly to a thin ring. Aroma is a combo of chocolate, roast, caramel, and heavily roasted coffee. A hint of vanilla beans and dark fruits. The flavor is heavier on the coffee and chocolate up front with a light caramel sweetness and a touch of roast on the finish. Minimal to no alcohol flavor and a little fruitiness throughout. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a fairly thick texture and nice soft slightly fizzy carbonation. Overall, this wasn’t the most intense or characterful beer, but it was incredibly drinkable. Lower on the wow factor, but higher on the satisfaction scale.

Bottled. Pretty nice porter. Comes across as a big dry stout, with a good, dry and roasty body, slightly challky mouthfeel but very filling and chewy. Pungent and chocolately nose, cheap bitter chocolate, rice wine/sake. Could easily get drunk on this stuff: goes down like 5%, even though it’s 8. Good stuff.

(Rating #956)

12 oz bottle shared with padrefan98. Dark pour with a decent head. Lots of coffee and some chocolate in the aromas. Flavor fell off a bit with a strange fruitiness that didn’t seem to fit in. Less espresso in the flavor than in the aromas. Some dustiness in the finsih. Still a decent porter.

THOUGHTS: I’m not a big Flying Fish fan, but this was great. Nay, incredible. This is the beer equivalent of coffee. It smells like coffee, tastes like coffee and looks like coffee; although I’ve never held coffee upt to a light while in a lear drinking vessle to see if it has red highlights. The flavor is great but a little one sided. It just got better as it warmed. I figured this would be pretty good from what I had read about the beer, but I wasn’t expecting anything this great. Almost more like a stout than a porter. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that looked black in the glass with red highlights and a small to average tan head that mostly diminished and left virtually no lacing. The aroma was of dark chocoate, strong coffee and rasted malt. The initial flavor was moderate sweetness and lightly bitter, while the finish was moderately to heavily sweet and moderately bitter with an average duration. The body was medium to full and syrupy and just a little dry with lively carbonation.

Courtesy of zathrus13. Good aromas on the nose of raosted coffee, caramel and vanilla. Black body with chocolate milk thin head. Flavor was a good mix of chcolate, sweet roasted malt, coffee. Body textue had a creamy feel some carbinated cola. Sweet malty somewhat bitterness lingers on the palate, good brew. Thanks Zack
