Commercial Description:
This robust dark brew has been created using rich Columbian dark roast coffee to celebrate our 10th anniversary in royal fashion. The enticing regal aromas of toffee and licorice lead to the coronation of taste; a palate of malty richness exhibiting chocolate and coffee notes, balanced by the noble and novel Mt. Rainer hop, all topped with a rich creamy crown. This very special offering will warm your soul and lift your spirits. Oh yeah, it also packs a royal kick at 8% alcohol.

12oz bottle from MrBendo. Aroma: Sweet roasted malt with notes of chocolate, anise, vanilla, and caramel. Coffee is fairly strong and smells like dark roasted coffee beans. Getting a fair amount of alcohol in the nose. Appearance: Dark brown in color with small chestnut highlights. Light tan head was full, foamy, and short lived. Not much lacing. Flavor: Sweet maltiness upfront with notes of cocoa, caramel, anise, and light smoke. Coffee is there, but doesn’t jump out the way I was hoping for. Getting a light bubblegum flavor right into the finish. Alcohol is a little too strong. Finishes medium dry with some roastiness and alcohol carrying over. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Some significant alcohol warming in back of mouth and on tongue. Overall: Didn’t enjoy this one as much as I had hoped. Flavors are a little muddled, and the alcohol came off pretty strong throughout. Not terrible, but needs some work.

12oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma. Smells of coffee, dark chocolate, malts, roasting, and a hint of cream. A very pleasant scent. Poured dark brown in color with a small tan head that diminished quickly. No lacing. Opaque. Flavor is medium sweet but not bitter. Starts out sweet with flavor of coffee and chocolate; then becomes malty and tastes of alcohol; next it gets kinda cardboard and cereal-like, tasting like a traditional Philly soft pretzel (a little salty to boot); finally, it has a coffee/chocolate finish that is a bit salty. Very complex flavor in this one. Light to medium body. Thin texture. Flat to soft carbonation. Finish is long, sweet, and a little salty. Overall, lots of flavor and aroma, but seriously lacking in body. Still, quite good.

Thin light tan head of pretty dense bubbles from a vigorous pour. Strong coffee and cocoa aroam. Rich roasted malts with a hint of smoke. Light hops presence in the background. Color is a very dark brown. Lots of coffee in the flavor along with some chocolate and burnt toast. Mouthfeel is a little more watery than expected yet lively in the mouth. Strong coffee yet it is not overpowering. Sweet malts keep the coffee in check. A little grainyness and chalkyness late swallow. Finishes very roasty and pretty clean. This is a strange brew. You look at it and expect to be assaulted with rich thick sweet malts and coffee yet the body is noticably thinner and livelier than expected. A pretty good brew from Flying Fish.

Bottle thanks to hophead75. Poured almost black and had a little brown head. Aroma was of light chocolate and coffee. Flavor was sweet, chocolatey, and had some espresso to it and a little alcohol. After trying again this was so easy to drink and balanced I bumped it up a little more.

thanks to boboski for allowing me to try this. Pours a deep brown color, pretty much black, with a small tan head. Smell is coffee. Taste is black coffee, creamer, some chocolate, and a flavor I can’t put my finger on. Hid the alcohol very well. Not a bad porter.

Bottle. Pours dark, dark, brown almost black with a small tan colored head. Aroma is unmistakeably chocolate and coffee, Flavor is much the same chocolate, coffee, caramel, toast. Palate is medium to full bodied, mildly carbonated, slightly syrupy, creamy, finishes very sweet. Alcohol is well hidden. Good stuff.

Dark Brown with Sandy Head. Aroma is Quite Subtle But Nice...Wonderful Coffee Roast and Coffee Flavor on the Nose. Mouthfeel Was Somewhere Between Creamy and Syrapy but Not Too Sweet...Wonderfully Balanced Overall. Sweet Malt, Nice Soft Hops, and Wonderful Coffee Flavor. A Presence But Not Overly So. Very Smooth. You will Not Expect This to be a 8% Beer. Although More Subtle Then Alot of Big Beer Fans Will Tolerate, I find This to be Seductively Tasty and Would Keep This Readily In Stock for a Nice Coffee Hit.
