Commercial Description:
First released in 2002, and sold out in two weeks. A tribute to the classic Fest styles of Germany the O'Fish uses European malts hops and yeast. A beautiful reddish color, a savory malt profile and nice hop flavor, make this Fest beer quite drinkable. OktoberFish is great with food and especially great with Lederhosen.

Malts: Muessdoerffer Munich, Muessdoerffer Vienna, Pauls Amber, Dingemanns De-Bittered Black and Two-row pale
Hops: Horizon, Crystal
Yeast: Dusseldorf Alt
Original Gravity: 14.3 Plato
Formats: 1/2 kegs, 1/6 kegs, cask-conditioned
Availability: September 1 to November 1 (if it lasts that long)

Thanks DarkElf! Pours a brown/amber color with a small head and some sticking lacing. Aroma is carmelly and slightly roasty and a touch of alcohol. Aroma is better than the flavor. I didn’t really enjoy this beer, it’s off balance in my opinion.

Pours a brilliantly clear, nice orange-amber color and is topped by a frothy pale tan colored head. The aroma is pretty clean; I get subtle notes of cherry, caramel, a dry toasted malt character and a hint of biscuits in the finish. The aroma is fairly subtle on this one. The taste is quite dry except in the finish where there is a bit of sweetness, and the palate is fairly light. There is a malty mix of cherry and caramel in the finish as well as a bit of bitterness. There is a light hop spiciness that runs through this beer and it is in line with the overall subtle character of this beer.

This is a nice easy drinking beer, it is not chock-full of flavor, yet it is quite satisfying; definitely a beer to be quaffed in great quantities. It does not have nearly the hop character that I like to see in an Alt, but it does have that nice fruity finish that I find typical of the style.

(12 oz bottles: Obtained in trades with jeffin7, zathrus13 and pineypower, thanks Jeff, Jeff and Dean!) Unfortunately, I’m already turned off by the perfumy, floral aroma. Malt seems light, but it’s sweet and fruity, vaguely tropical, perhaps a mix of watermelon, peach, apricot and mango. Whatever the fruits are, this beer is just too fruity and perfumy. I don’t like this type of aroma in wine, and I especially don’t like it in beer. And then it continues in the flavor. Once again, malt isn’t what I notice first. It’s very fruity, sweet, and floral, like some cheap, artificial flavoring. Malt could be toasty, or just grainy, I can’t tell with the massive blast of cheap fruit. A modest tartness and some light bitterness at least help to offset the sickening perfume, but not nearly enough. Boy, I really don’t like this at all. Medium bodied, well-carbonated, but the sweet, perfumy aftertaste is terrible and I can’t wait to rinse this out of my mouth. Amber in color and fully clear in appearance, the body is initially topped by half an inch of off-white head. As it fades to a broken film surrounded by a wide ring, a few patches of lace are left behind. I managed to drink half a glass, and now I’m making a beeline for the sink.

Clear, amber copper in color with a thick layer of tan ice for the head. Aroma plagiarizes the common characteristics, but misses the mark for the most part, spawning canned green beans, copper, caramel and corn meal. Sweet caramel is there for flavor but the body’s erring on the light side of caution. Reverberating tin, which is ever present and annoying. Brazil nuts and pecan shells give it the requisite nut dimension, along with a watered down hazelnut syrup trait. Thin, weak and washy. No malt support. Finishes like licking a telephone pole and chewing on sweet piney nuts. Thanks for the bottle, Thaichile.

A dark amber brew with a fruity aroma. No head. The hops come in first, then a nice malt finish, balanced but not quite smooth. Good aftertaste.

Dark orange amber with a small white head. Caramel, toasted malt, and graininess in the aroma. Slight toastiness, floral earthen hops in the flavor. Watery graininess with slight caramel flavors in the finish. Mouthfeel is light medium and fairly smooth.
